Those board members attending in addition to Mr Landrud were Arnie Galli, Maggie Greenslit and Lonnie Sundal. Also present at the meeting were Parks Maintenance Manager Mike Miller, Parks Maintenance staff Richard Valenti, Environmental Planner Jamie Kelly and Parks Secretary Julie Mehl. II Minutes The August & September minutes were approved with the following changes Lea Hill park will have one baseball field (not two), and Lonnie's question was regarding an Arborist rather than Horticultunst. III. Correspondence/Public Input Jamie Kelly asked Bryce if he has heard from anyone at Mary ]o Burns dental offce regarding ' the Tulip tree. Bryce said no one has contacted him directly Jamie will follow up. Trees. Maggie asked if the Gry wdl replace the trees lost in the ice storm Mike shared some will be replaced as Parks Maintenance assesses the needs per park Public Works will decide the fate of the R Street trees, they are too large for the area Richard asked about the trees at the new animal shelter, they are to be planted in the next two months. IV Old Business Bryce likes both the Red Maple located at 117 K St, and the English Maple at 411 H St The Evergreen at the Methodist church is a viable candidate as well. The Big Leaf Maple at 626 — 8`" St SE should not be nominated as it has not been managed and has been topped. The English or Black Walnut at 1125 — 4"' St NE needs to be evaluated after the leaves fall off. Mike Miller ofFered to contact the owners at 411 H St and 117 K St regarding Heritage Tree status Mike asked if we should nominate both Heritage trees at once or nominate one every six months Bryce thinks two trees at the same time would be more effiaent AUBURN * MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED V New Business VI. Board Recommendations/Input VII Department Report Richard has selected a Styrax tree for the neighborhood tree planting to take place on H Street. The Styrax grows to be 30 feet tall and are fragrant The canopy will likely cover the sidewalk area. Bryce asked if it will be an Eagle Scout pro�ect, Mike rephed 'yes', he wdl contact neighbors after he hears from the Eagle Scout Mike Miller is working on the Tree City USA application. We will qualify as the City has spent $160,000 on trees this year The trail has been deared around the West Hill Lake properry Parks Maintenance used a walk behind machine that puiverizes / mulches brush & ivy on the trail. The Park Board will likely decide on the amenities at the newly acquired property Mike's vision is to keep it native, perhaps holding a Clean Sweep pro�ect at the lake. The old wooden play eqwpment at Game Farm Park has been removed and replaced with new play equipment. The large saucer type swings have been very popular. Shaughnessy Park has been updated with new play eqwpment, the volleyball court has been converted to a pickleball court A mosaic has been installed in the patio concrete An Eagle Scout project has been completed at Dorothy Bothell park. 50 Cypress Trees have been planted, Richard participated. The grading and drainage are compiete at the new Lea Hill park They are 1/3 complete on the irrigation system and plan to hydro seed the week of October 8 On October 15 the Seventh Day Adventist Church will work on some pro�ects throughout town They will be planting shrubs on 320`" by Green River Community College m heu of the displaced fencing. Either Juniper or a columnar type bush The selected shrub can not be wide as the vehicles will need space to pull over on the shoulder The Hops & Crops event had a nice turn out of 968 people Maggie attended as a Master Gardener and spoke to over 80 people Folks main complaints were the lack of food vendors (there were only two), and lack of Sani Cans.
