MINUTES
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman RogerThordarson called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. in the Council Conference
Room, Iocated on the first floor of Aubum City Hall, 25 West Main Street, Aubum, Washington.
Committee members present were: Nick Pe�ius, Jim Fletcher, Lonnie Tealer, John Daniels Jr and
Michael Pratum. Also present during the meeting were: Public Works Director Dennis Dowdy,
Transportation PlanneNGrants Manager Chris Hankins, Transportation Planner Joe Welsh and
Public Works Office Assistant Heather Guiberson
II. CONSENT AGENDA
A. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
It was moved by Jim Fletcher seconded by Nick Perius that the Committee approve the Public
Works Committee minutes for February 22, 2012. Motion camied.
III. DISCUSSION AND INFORMATION
A. SOUND TRANSIT UPDATE FOR AUBURN STATION (Welsh)
Transportation Planner Joe Welsh infortned the committee that Sound Transit is going to be
reconstructing the bus loading/unloading zones at Aubum Station. About 400 buses move
through the station on a daily basis. The access wiil be closed from 3-6 weeks during the
summer Currently they are working on rbutes to keep the buses as close to the Transit Center
as possible. Most buses will be put out on A Street SW, which will be similar to what occurs
during the summer months on weekends when the Farmers Market is being held at the Transit
Center There will be other layover locations for buses, one will be located at 2ntl Street SE.
Director powdy asked if there would be a temporary map board available to show where the
routes will now be located. Welsh stated that there will be temporary signing along with a Sound
Transit Supervisor to help commuters with direction.
B. PIERCE TRANSIT'S SERVICE PLAN FOR LAKELAND UPDATE (Welsh)
Chairman Thordarson asked Welsh if the Lakeland Hills transit route is in danger Welsh stated
that the Lakeland Hills route is not in any danger Welsh received an email from Pierce Transit
stating that they believe based on ridership, Route 497 is here for the long tertn.
C. SUMMARY OF RECENT GRANT OPPORTUNITIES (Hankins)
Transportation Planner/Grants Manager Hankins distributed and discussed a copy of an
application for the Aubum Way South (SR 164) Capacity ImprovemeMs project_that was
submitted for the Tiger IV Grant. The Tiger IV Grant is a federal program, TIGER stands for
Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery There have been four rounds of
this Tiger Grant in which the City has applied 3 out of the 4 times for various city projects.
The goal of the project is to increase capacity and pedestrian access. Muckleshoot Indian
Tribe, Enumclaw and WSDOT have joined forces with Auburn to put together a route
development plan. With all jurisdictions combined we have come up with a 2.5 million dollar

match. Improvements would include better lighting, a center tum lane past Fir and widening of
the roadway Chairman Thordarson asked when the decision for grant funding would be made.
Hankins stated that the City will have the results of the application sometime this summer
D. CHAMBER PROPOSED BALLOT MEASURE FOR ARTERIAL STREET REPAIRS UPDATE
(Dowdy)
Direoto� Dowdy stated that there have been five different public meetings to discuss the
proposed ballot measure. Informational meetings have not been well attended, there have been
more preserrters present than attendees. The ba�lot is scheduled for the April 17"' polling date.
Terry Davis is still trying to raise money to send out informational mailers. We have to have
40% of registered voters tum out and of that 40% they will need a 60% in favor in order to pass.
