III. Correspondence /Public Input
IV. Old Business
Heritage Trees at 411 H St and 117 K St, Mike has not contacted owners yet. We need to get
these nominated trees through council by December 31. Lonnie offered to ask the owners of
the Red Oak located at R & 4t" NE if they would be interested in Heritage status. It was also
suggested we contact the Methodist Church on M & 2nd SE about nominating their Cedar as a
homage to Len Elliott and the many years he spent volunteering on the Urban Tree Board.
V. New Business
Bryce would like to focus on obtaining new board members. He would also like to put together
a mission timeline. Jan feels a main function of the Tree Board is attending events.
VI. Board Recommendations /Input
Bryce noticed the trees on 81" St NE had been pruned deeply. He would like to contact the folks
who pruned the trees to see if the Tree Board could offer pruning guidelines, common tree
goals etc. Richard suggested starting with Vegetation Department. Julie will check with that
department.
Bryce would also like to connect with local Home Owners Associations to give tree care

suggestions and guidelines. Julie will see what Community Services would be willing to do.
Lonnie mentioned someone at the Auburn Garden Club suggested we plant a fruit tree for the
next Arbor Day tree planting. The idea would be to help out the homeless folks by providing a
healthy snack.
VII. Department Report — Rich Valenti
Dorothy Bothell Park: There are a few more trees to be planted on the hillside which will be
done 'in- house' and Dorothy Bothell Park will be completed! There have been a total of nine
Eagle Scout projects for this park, two built a split rail fence, two built dry river beds, one
assembled and installed picnic tables & benches and four did different landscaping projects.
Auburn Animal Control Building: The planting will take place Saturday, December 8 at 8:00
am.
Lea Hill Park: The weather over the last month has really slowed down the progress. They
completed the baseball field grading and hydro- seeded in early October and the grass is coming
in nicely. The concrete slab for the bandstand /picnic shelter is completed and construction of
the new building will begin in 2 — 3 weeks. The trees along the south fence line are planted
and most of the shrubs in that area are scheduled to be planted by the end of December. They
will also start working on the skate park next and the rest of the grading and seeding most
likely won't happen until Spring, unless we get an unusually dry January and the site dries up
sooner.
Issac Evans ten year plan: A plan will be drawn up to re- forest Isaac Evans Park, removing the
Cottonwood trees and re- planting with a mixture of conifer and deciduous trees. Each year we
hope to remove and replace 10 — 15 trees. When this project is completed Mike can retire with
peace and tranquility.
Still looking for Eagle Scout to plant trees along H St SE between 2nd & 4t" St SE. May have to
look for other volunteer source, we don't want to plant any later than January or early
February.
VIII. Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:47 pm.
