HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-06-2012 (2)City of Auburn Arts Commission, City Hall Annex, One Main, Conference Room 1 Tuesday, November 6, 2012 Meeting Minutes Present: Greg Watson, Cary Davidson, Heidi Harris, Patricia Judd, Colleen Maloney, Leslie Moore, Dan Norman, Arts Coordinator Maija McKnight, Council Liason Rich Wagner Excused: Ronie Schwend, Tanya Rottle, Nickole Evans, DeNae McGee Guests Windy Foster, Tina Underdahl and Lorraine Lameyer, Heavier Than Air Theater I. Call to Order, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approval of Minutes: Chair Greg Watson called the meeting to order at 4:30. October minutes were not approved as quarum was not reached. II. Heavier than Air Theater Presentation Guests Windy Foster, Tina Underdahl and Lorraine Lameyer, provided a informational presentation an Heavier Than Air Theater. Heavier Than Air Family Theatre has been bringing quality family theatre to the South King County area for over 35 years. The community theater uses professional, local actors and children that work together to create some of the most entertaining live performances in the area at a reasonable price. Heavier Than Air Theater produces three family appropriate plays a year with actors ranging in age from 7 to 66. Additionally, they operate a 5 week summer camp for children ages 3 through 17. Approximately 200 students, working with their peers, go through a rehearsal period as part of the theatre summer program. This program specifically trains children in basic and advanced theatre techniques and offers a unique opportunity for children to participate in a 'hands -on' theatre experience. Under the direction of the theatre staff, students learn about auditioning, vocal projection, movement, improvisation, acting, dancing and singing. At the conclusion of the five weeks, students participate in a production with lights, costumes, sets, props and makeup. Discussion continued and questions were offered by various commissioners. III. Commission Membership Chair Greg Watson asked for Vice Chair nominations for 2013. Pat Judd nominated Colleen Maloney. Greg Watson nominated Denae McGee. Staff will communicate with the two nominees to let them know of the nomination and the chance to accept or decline, as they were not in attendance. The Vice Chair position will serve as Commission Chair in 2014. Voting will be held at the December meeting. According to staff records three commissioner's terms are expiring at the end of the year and include Patricia Judd, Leslie Moore and Tanya Rottle. Commissioner Moore inquired to the timeframe and requested to confirm the appointment date with the City Clerk. Term Limits are 2 terms of 3 years each (6 years total) and were implemented 7 years prior. Discussion continued. IV. Updates /Announcements /Upcoming Events Various dates and events were shared with the Commission. The next Commission meeting will take place at the home of Ronie Schwend on December 4 starting at 5:30. There will be a breif meeting followed by a potluck and holiday gathering..
