CALL TO ORDER The Human Services Committee Meeting was calied to order at 4pm on Monday, January 28, 2013 at One Main Street, Aubum, WA. AGENDA . Auburn's One Night Count Advisor to the Mayor Michael Hursh presented data from the annual One Night Homeless Count. Aubum started participating six years ago in this annual event. Information gathered from this count is used nationally by advocacy groups to obtain homeless services. Mr Hursh reported 57 individuals counted during the 2013 One Night Count; this is the highest Aubum has had on record since participating. • Homelessness Mr Hursh discussed several areas dealing with homelessness with the Human Services Committee including, but not limited to, policy creation, use of public space, sheltering and partnerships through local non-profits to provide services. The City of Aubum is reviewing vehicle and motorhome parking regulations; currenUy a vehicle can not park over 72 hours in an allowed public space. There have been reports of people parking their vehicles on private property, such as a church parking lot, where there are no time restrictions. Communication has been happening between local churches and city sfaff to discuss and address safety concems. Services and resources are available through communiry partners, including the Aubum Food Bank, St. �ncent de Paul, the Union Gospel Mission, Neighborhood Chapel, Lifeway Church and First United Methodist Church. The topic of sheftering was discussed; however, this issue needs to be addressed at a regional level. Other concems of homelessness brought up by Human Services Committee Members included the need to address mental illnesses and housing/shelter access. Senior Center Supervisor Radine Lozier mentioned Valley Cities Counseling and Consultation and Union Gospel Mission staff has been meeting clients at the Senior Center; these partnerships have been extremely helpful as many people need these services. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES • Review of November 26, 2012 minutes o Member Derda motioned to accept the November 26, 2012 minutes; Member Booth seconded the motion. All Committee Members were in favor of adopting the minutes as submitted. ■ The November 26, 2012 minutes were approved. IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS e 2013 Human Services Committee meeting schedule — the 2013 schedule was handed out. . South King County Housing Tour recap — Member Derda shared about the informative event and asked to have materials given to other members. Materials from meeting were distributed electronicaily .
