Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 2:04 pm by Bryce Landrud. Those board members
attending in addition to Mr. Landrud were Arnie Galli and Jan Speer. Also present at the
meeting were Parks Maintenance Manager Mike Miller, Parks Horticulturist Richard Valenti and
Parks Secretary Julie Mehl.

The December minutes were approved.

8t" Street trees — Julie called the City of Auburn Vegetation Department to find out who pruned
the trees on 8t" St. The Vegetation Department pruned as they were a public safety hazard.

VI. Board Recommendations /Input
HOA's — Julie has looked into and Community Services would be willing to forward any
information we would like to Auburn Home Owner's Associations, but they will not release any
HOA contact information. Jan would like to extend an open invitation to HOA's if they ever
have any tree care issues or needs. Mike Miller added that many HOA's leave space for City
information in Newsletters. Rich suggests recruiting more Tree Board members through HOA's.
Bryce noticed the two Oak trees on Auburn Way N by Radio Shack have been severly pruned.
Is there a way to protect these trees from further harm? Are they in the right of way?
Bryce has been unanimously nominated as Urban Tree Board chair for 2013.

Will review & update work plan' for February meeting.
Maggie Greenslit has resigned from the board as her term has expired.
VII. Department Report — Mike Miller
Rich Valenti passed his Certified Arborist test with a score of 89. Nice job!
Mike passed around a draft copy of the Auburn Parks Department Year in Review'.
10 acre purchase on Green River — plans are to create parking area and landscape between
parking and neighbors property.
Lake purchase on West Hill — board would like to take a field trip to view the lake.
There will be an auction on March 1 for the State owned buildings at Game Farm Park.
Heritage trees — Mike has stopped by numerous times at possible Heritage Tree locations. Can
not contact, folks not home. Suggested a letter go out from the Tree Board. Mike believes the
house on K street may be a rental.
An Eagle Scout group will be planting 25 trees on H Street on February 9. Bryce and Jan will
help Mike knock on doors to ask home owners on H St if they can water the trees in summer
time for a year or two until trees get established. They will start on January 19th and follow up
on January 26. They will hand out maps showing the number of trees & location and a photo
of the type of tree to be planted.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:55 pm.
