HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-05-2013 (3)Minutes Tuesday, March 5, 2012 2:00 p.m. Conference Room Parks, Arts & Recreation Administration Building Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 2:04 pm by Chair Bryce Landrud. Additional board members attending were Arnie Galli, Lonnie Sundal and Jan Speer. Also present at the meeting were Planner Jamie Kelly, Parks Horticulturist Richard Valenti, and Parks Secretary Julie Mehl. Minutes The January minutes were unanimously approved. III. Correspondence /Public Input IV. Old Business Board member Jan Speer is writing an invitation for Auburn Home Owner's Associations offering tips for tree planting and tree care. Board member Jan and Chair Bryce would be willing to attend HOA meeting(s) to offer a free session on tree care training. City Planner Jamie Kelly states he gets a lot of calls from the Lakeland Hills Home Owners Association with tree related inquiries. 81" Street trees: Chair Bryce would still like to offer pruning training to the City's Vegetation Department as a result of the city pruned trees on 81" street. Julie (Secretary) will attempt to coordinate. Jamie (Planner) will forward Auburn City Code for review. Oak Trees on Auburn Way North near Radio Shack: Chair Bryce has not been able to contact Kimmco, the management company to inquire about their pruning techniques. V. New Business Arbor Day Tree Planting — Richard (Horticulturist) suggests either a Japanese Larch or Stuardia for the 2013 Arbor Day Tree. Richard also suggests we plant at Game Farm Park this year as a AUBURN *MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED lot of trees were IosG during the ice storm last year. Bryce (Chair)suggests planting a Larch tree between some of the hardwoods at Game Fa�m Park. Julie (Secretary) will work on press release and invitation. The tentative date is scheduled for April 24"' at 10:00 am. Bryce (Chair) has located three Walnut Trees in magnificent condition on 4"' St NE owned 6y Pete )ones. One of the trees is noted in the book''Big Treesin Washington", by Bob Vanpelt as being largest in thestate. Bryce would like tb nominate for Heritage status. VI. Board RecommendationsJInput VII. Department Report— Richard Valenti (Holticulturist) • Mul4iple damaged Plum trees have been removed from Brannan Park.. • A Dogwood tree was planted at the Auburn Valley Humane Society as a memorial to "Angel"the Great Dane. Ashes will be installed in the near future. • Play equipment at Lea Hill park has been installed. • Pressure washing is underway at all parks. • 277�' planting (between road &sidewalk) been completed. e 15"' Street mectian has been planted with Burberry &Juniper. • City Hall —Thyme has been replaced. • Pre-emergent spraying and mowing have begun. e Seasonal workers have begun. • 2000 Geranium cuttings for annual flower beds and pots. • Plugs have been delivered from the Auburn GartJen Club.
