A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AUBURN, WASHINGTON, EXPRESSING CONCERN
ABOUT KING COUNTY LOCATING A SOLID WASTE
TRANSFER STATION AT 28721 WEST VALLEY
HIGHWAY, IN AUBURN, WASHINGTON
WHEREAS, the King County Solid Waste Transfer Station in Algona,
Washington, is out-dated, too small and inadequate to meet future needs; and
WHEREAS, the need to replace or expand the current Algona Solid Waste
Transfer Station prompted King County to look at other sites in South King County; and
WHEREAS, the initial sites explored by King County included a C Street, Auburn
site for which the City of Auburn identified many concerns regarding that site's use as a
solid waste transfer station; and
WHEREAS, King County then focused attention on the 28721 West Valley
Highway, Auburn, Washington site as a potential South King County Solid Waste
Transfer Station; and
WHEREAS, this West Valley Highway site, also, presents many neighborhood
concerns, in addition to the wetlands and wildlife habitat character of the property on
which the site is located.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES as follows:
1. That the City Council requests that King County extend the environmental
impact statement (EIS) scoping time period to May 3, 2013, for the South King
County Solid Waste Transfer Station project, so as to allow additional public
comment.
2. That the City Council further requests that King County consider the comments
and concerns identified by the citizens of Auburn regarding the 28721 West
Valley Highway site, as stated at the Auburn City Council meeting of April 1,
2013.

3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect upon passage and signatures
hereon.
