III. Market Manager Report— Joanne Macnab
We currently have 29 registered vendors
17— Farmers
1 — Prepared Foods
1 — Processed Foods
10— Craft
We have 8 demonstrations/presentations booked for the season and Gabrielle, the chalk
artist is coming back on July 2151
Our 2013 posters have arrived. We have 250. Due to the City of Auburn utilizing a new
vendor, the paper quality is much thinner, making the posters less durable.

The bookmarks have been ordered. We will be getting 10,000. They should arrive before
the next votunteer meeting which is scheduled for May 9. The first postcard mailer is
scheduled to go out the first week of June.
In 2012, we disposed of two damaged fence line banners. That left us with a total of three.
Using KCD Grant marketing funds, we have ordered four new fence line banners.
Our fence line banners will be going up mid May and the banner that goes on the North
Side of the Auburn Way Rail Bridge is scheduled for May 20"'.
On Tuesday, April 23rd, we received 10 lightweight, plastic "Simpo Sign"A-frames. These
signs were ordered for use in church parking lots. We had a digital print decal and a clear
film coating applied to both sides of the A-frames. They look good and they are
waterproof. The volunteers are getting approval from their various churches.
Volunteer meetings are now bi-monthly and all future meetings until the market opens
have been scheduled.
I have a new contact at Sound Transit for facilities operations and repairs. I have
contacted him regarding some electrical tower repairs. Repairs should be complete by the
end of April and the water was scheduled to be turned on April 19". I will check everything
during clean sweep.
Sound Transit has agreed to participate in Clean Sweep at the Plaza on Saturday, May
4'". If anyone here would like to volunteer to pull weeds and pick up garbage at the Plaza
location, please let me know.
Clean Sweep 2013 begins at 7:30am at City Hall with a pancake breakfast. Volunteer
projects begin around 9:OOam.
AHS had their field trip to Pike Place Market today. Diane Sarr e-mailed me on the ride
home and said they had a good trip. They arrived as many vendors were still setting up.
She will have the list of participating students to be by the end of next week.
Tuesday, April 16h, I spoke at the Senior Center Advisory Board meeting. I gave a
presentation on how and when our market began and why farmers markets are so vital to
our farmers and communities. It was a good opportunity to talk about our Senior
Appreciation Day and possibly recruit new volunteers.
The Auburn WIC office has asked me to speak at a future meeting and I have agreed. The
date has not been set.
Due to budget cuts in 2012, WIC was only able to distribute client checks at the market
one time. This season, they have asked to distribute client checks at the market twice,
possibly three times.
As promised at our March meeting, I have contacted Coastal Farm and Ranch regarding
sponsorship opportunities. They are taking our request to their donations committee for
review.
Update on Bill to permit wine tasting at farmers markets:
Earlier this week the Senate voted to concur with the House-amended bill. It is expected
that the Governor will sign the bill into law in the next three weeks. The Washington State

' Farmers Market Association is in contact with the LCB to discuss their plans once the tiill
becomes law.
The cities of Puyallup, Renton and Roslyn have eliminated their Sunday marKets. The
closest fartners market now operating on a Sunday is South Tacoma to the South and
West Seattle to the North. There are currently 19 farmers markets in the State of
Washington that operate on Sunday.
At the February Advisory Board meeting, I mentioned that the Shadow Lake Nature
Preserve, in partnership with King Conservation District, has offered us the opportunity to
tour the Preserve. The Preserve is 92 acres surrounding Shadow Lake that is under
protection. This preserves a rare and valuable habitat including a 5,000 year old peat bog. If
we want a tour, May would be optimal time. My contact is ayailable on Tuesday, Thursday,
Friday and Saturciay. The tour of the boadwalk is about 30 minutes. If we want to touthe
upland section, the tour would last a little over an hour.
Joanne reminds the board about Clean Sweep on Saturday May 4, we will be pulling weeds
and cleaning up garbage at the Sound Transit Plaza. It begins wi4h a pancake breakfast at
7:30 am arid projects begin at 9.'00 am.

Kiwanis and says iYs very easy to use and yo.0 can also easily retrieve various rep:orts.
