Transfer Station Comments
7-1-2013
First and foremost, I would like to thank the Mayor and City Council for working with property
owners, businesses and citizens to oppose the siting of a King County transfer station in North
Auburn.
We appreciate your insight in recognizing that a transfer station in North Auburn will not only
have negative economic impacts on surrounding property values, but also on surrounding
businesses, citizens and the Auburn community as a whole.
We respectfully request that the Mayor and City Council continue to provide leadership,
direction, staff support and resources to oppose the siting of a transfer station in North Auburn.
On Monday, June 24`h, we received notification from King County about a community
information meeting on the South King County Transfer Station Siting Project to be held on July
11, 2013. If not for the City of Auburn reaching out prior to King County to make us aware of
the meeting, we would be even less informed than we already are. Thank you to the City of
Auburn for your communication and support in keeping concerned parties informed.
The potential siting of a transfer station in North Auburn is of the highest concern to
surrounding property owners, businesses and citizens. The July 11`h Community Meeting was
announced with short notice, especially to be held during a time when in general many are on
holiday, thus making it not possible for concerned parties to attend. I ask that the City of
Auburn please make it known to King County that an inadequate amount of lead time and
notification was made regarding the July 11`h Community Meeting. Further, I ask that the City
of Auburn please continue to help inform concerned parties about the upcoming July 111h
Community Meeting.
My understanding from the email I received from Pat McLaughlin of King County, the July 11`"
Community Meeting will include speakers representing cities. I ask that the Mayor and City
Council to please make representation at the meeting stating the City of Auburn's opposition to
siting a transfer station in the North Auburn location. In doing so, we send a message to King
County that the City of Auburn, its property owners, businesses and citizens are unified in our
opposition to siting a transfer station in North Auburn as well as anywhere within the City of
Auburn.
Request:
1. City of Auburn to provide direction, support and resources to oppose the North
Auburn Transfer Station.
A. We ask that the City Council use its existing committees to oppose the North
Auburn site and any potential siting of a transfer station in the City of
Auburn
B. Additionally, we ask the Mayor, by providing leadership and staff support, to
oppose the siting of any transfer station in the City of Auburn.
2. City of Auburn make known to King County that an inadequate amount of lead
time and notification was made to concerned parties regarding the July 11'
2013 King County Community Meeting.
A. Additionally, we ask the City of Auburn to help inform concerned parties
about the July 11, 2013 King County Community Meeting
3. City of Auburn, by means of the Mayor and City Council, to state its opposition
to siting a transfer station in North Auburn by making representation at the
July 11, 2013 King County Community Information Meeting on the South King
County Recycling and Transfer Station Siting Project
A. We ask that the Mayor and the City Council continue to support its property
owners, businesses and citizens in opposing the siting of a transfer station in
North Auburn.
A Solid Waste Transfer Station in North Auburn is not a positive addition to the City of Auburn
or for its property owners, businesses and citizens.
The City of Auburn has an opportunity to show King County its continued opposition of siting a
transfer station in Auburn and we ask that you please do so by making such representation at
the July 11, 2013 King County Community Meeting as well as continuing to allocate the
necessary resources to fight the siting of a transfer station anywhere within the City.
