B. METRO TRANSIT CUT PLANS (Welsh)
Transportation Planner Welsh advised Committee that the house and senate leadership are
considering a statewide package which allows King County to put a ballot measure out to the
public to collect a 1.5% Motor Vehicle Excise Tax(MVET).
The MVET revenues will be split 60% for King County transit and 40% for King County roads.
The estimate is that, if approved, the MVET will provide Metro Transit with approximately $85
million in annual revenues to cover what Metro estimated was a current shortfall of around $75
million.
C TRANSIT PARKING IF PROPERTY SELLS (Thordarson)
Chairman Thordarson stated he is concerned that if the property (the block where the Chamber
is and where White Knight used to be) sells, where will the additional transit parking be
relocated to as this property is currently used as transit parking. Director Dowdy responded,
presumably the people that are buying this property will be developing it for a purpose that
ultimately requires some parking.
Chairman Thordarson asked if there are any developments on building an additional parking
garage. Director Dowdy advised there are no new developments at this point.
