Towner be appointed temporerily to �this eommittee. �

The City Clerk �ead a Cail for Bids for the construction of
a water distribution system fon the East Hill , bids aill be -
received until July 19, 1960.

Councilman Sonneman reported the Police Committee will recomme d •
to the Council the appointment of A�chie Fry to draa �he •plans for
the Police Jail.. .,Councilman Aaby ranted to know if Ehe e�edit from -
Don Allison was eonside�ed. Councilman 'Sonneman stated that the .
Commiftee has• tal.ked with �both men .and ,A�chie Fry's proposal was
ander pon 'A.Ilison's even afte� the credit -was considered.

It was moved by Aaby and 2nd by Petersen that tha City
Attorney be instructed to draft the necessary ordinanee for the
ssle of bonds for the proposed .improvement of eity hall .
MOTION CARRIED
Councilman Sonneman also repo�ted that the committee has
investigated the changing of speed limits th�u out the city.
Councilman Sonnemen stetad he res unable to find out just how high
the speed limits can ba raised. Engineer, George Schuler, slated
that these limits aill be app�oved by the highray dept. and if
the limits are not in acco�dance with thei � policy, the City rill
be notified. '"

be approved and the suggested limits be sent to the State Highway
Dept.

Councilman Kammeyer �eported that the bids for the Water tom�/ r
we�e opened last meeting end the Consulting Enginee�, R�chard Wolf ,
met with �the Water Committee and i�was decided—tfiat the awa�d �,
wouid ao to the Pittsburg Des Moines Steel Co. for $23,856.56. � ,�

awerd lao to Pittsburg Des Moi�oes Steel Co.

LIGHT COMMITTEE
Councilman Gaines stated that the C�mmittee �eceived a reques
for street lights on G 8 17th S.E, and F & 17th S.E.
It was moved by Gaines and 2nd by Towner that these lights
he instalted.

Councilman Gaines also recommended that the City take ove�
the maintenance of street lights on Clay Street.
It was moved by Gaines and 2nd by Tovme� that the City
maintain the lights on Clay Street.

Mavor Shaughnessy suggested to Councilman Gaines that the Cit
' orill either a�cept o� reject the deed for this property an�drill
maintain it in the same manndr as the Park and Cemetery, rather
, than to ask the His.torical Soeiety whet they want and be bounded

Councilman' Gaines stated th�y will have a meeting nex� week
end this aill be relayed to them.

% � Councilman Fitzsimmons stated that after considerable study o
�the oo-carts,situation by the License Committee, they discovered
" that about ninty pe�cent of the people aere eg�fnst the noise end
not the av carts. ' The Committee o�de�ed a muffle� from the West .
• B�nd Motor Co. ahieh is designed for a two cycle chain engine whic
' •: was t�ied out. This muffler cut down the noise a good eighty
• �percent. The City Attorney noa has an ordinanee drafted.

OLD BUSINESS
The Street Supt. and--th�.Mayo� investigated the problem on
�nd & C St. S.E. It was reported that a sign would be put up
with °No perkina from he�d to co�ner° about 75 feet back f�om the
corner. It was elso suggested that the word °STOP� be painted at
the ent�ance of the alley betaeen the Masonic Lodge and Equity
Realty. The Mayor inst�ueted the Street Supt. to tak care of
these suqaestions.
The Mayor also stated that several letters have been written
to property oaners concerning tall grass on thei � vacant lots. Th
City is tryin� to co��ect the situation of tall grass and is ,
taking care of their own prope�ty. It was also suggested to the
�earesentatives of th� pape�s that artieles be xritten rega�ding
tall arass.
