held at 8 :00 I'.M. . in the Council Chambers at the City Hall .
The meet.ing was called to order by Mayor Shaughnessy.

Minutes of the previous meeting held July 5, 1.960 were
approved as mailed.

the Consulting Engineer finishes the tabulation, the bid checks

CORRESPONDENCE
HUBURN CHHMBER OF COMMERCE
The City Clerk read a. letter from the Auburn Chamber of
Commerce recommending the City government change the policy, of
handling parking meter revenue. ! That at least 50°b of the revenue
� be used to acquire additional park,ing fac'ilities instead of being
diverted ,into the general fund. '
1'his letter was referred to. the Street Committee for study.

The City Clerk read a letter from the Nlanning Commission
suggesting the denial of the petition of Mrs. Stelia Goodfellow
to rezone from R 60 Residential to Special property use for the
prnQpose of operating a beauty shop.
It was moved by Haby: and 2nd_ by F'etersen that the City
co.ncur with the recommendations of the Vlanning Comm'ission and
', deny the petition of Mrs. Stella Goodfellow. MOTION CHRRIED
CHLL FOR BIDS
' The �ity Clerk read a call for bids for 2655 sq, yds. of
asphaltic concrete paving , at cross street. Bids to be opened
at 8:00 P.M. , Tuesday; 'Hugust 2; 1960.

The City Clerk read a letter from Clinton H. Hergert,
Commissioner Fire District #46, requesting the assistance of the
City of Huburn Fire Dept. in the protection of this district until
fire dquipment has been obtained and a firehall established.

HUBURN DHYS COMMITTEE
� / The City Clerk read a letter from the Huburn Day's
V�+ Com 'm�ttee requesting permission to use the parking lot located at
�,�•' � Ist & B St . N .E, for two small kiddie rides on Saturday, July 30,
1960. The parking lot would be used for one day oniy.
This request was referred to the Ilicense Committee with power
to act, and Councilman Petersen De appointed temporarily to this
committee.
The City Httorney suggested that the cmmpany also be required
to furnish a satisfactory insurance policy to cover any possibie
damage suit that may occure.
SIDE SEWER CONTRACTORS LICENSE
The City Clerk read an application from R. H. Schaifer for a '
side=sewer contractors license.
It was moved by Petersen and 2nd by Haby that the City accept
this application for side sewer contractors license upon the
arrival of e satisfactory bond. MOTION CHRRIED
HLGONH HGREEMENT
The City Clerk read the agreement between the City of
Huburn and the City of Algona, where in tfie City of Hlgona will
pay the millage assessed of 4 milis on valuation of $425,768.00
and the City of Huburn agrees to respond to fire alarms within
the City limits of the City of Hlgona and to provide fire service
therein.
it was moved by Kammeyer and 2nd by Sonnemann that the Mayor
and City Clerk of Huburn be authorized to sign the agreement

STREET COMMITTEE
Councilman Petersen reported that he had talked with Walt Mil s
of Miles Co. and a representative from Rainier Aspahlt about the
resurfscing of R �t. S.E. from 21st Street to the Game Farm Road.
This road is consisted of mostiy patches and needs resurfacing badly.
Councilman Petersen and the Street Committee rill have a
meetinq with these peopie to decide what is to be done with this
road.

on Seal Coat Oiling foo several streets in the City.

cell for bids on Seal Coat Oiling on several streets in the City,
bids to be opened on August 2, 1960, at 8:00 P.M, and the call
for bids be pubiished twice in the officiaf paper.

Councilman Gaines stated he eoouid like the City Clerk to
write Puaet Sound Power & Light authorizing the installation of

WATER SUPT. REPORT
, L The Water Supt. reported they had a b�eak in the West Hill
line causing Distriet �80 's water to be muddy. The Supt. statad
f�e did not know ahen this situation would be eleared and asked
the people to beer with them untii it was cleared.

The City Engineer read two lette�s from the King County
Planning Dept. These letter's were concerning a motorcycle cou�se
The two letters contradicted each othe� as to the p�ope� zoning
of the land prior to annexation, so the City Engineer aould like
to check with the County mpas and report back later.

The MaYOr stated he wouid like all the citizens of Auburn to
cut any tall grass on their vacant property or any property ahicfi ,
they may own. The fire hazards will be greatly reduced if people
wili work with the City on making this a safe town.
The Mayor aiso stated that Earl Decker, Dog Warden, reported
that doa licenses have declined this year. Ne veould like all dogs
inside the City licensed. Several complaints have been received
about unlicensed dogs. Thn_Mayor would also like the press to
make comments on this matter.

The Mayor reoorted that the City has a ner plsy ground at
�th & K St. N .E. The Mayor would IiJce all citizens in Auburn to
use this areund when they see fit. A water tep has been instailed
at this aark and he would like anyone using the ball field to
keep the dust down by using the water from this tap.
The Mavor stated that he has received a letter from the
Association of Washington Cities and they aould like this administr -
tion to a�ooint a legisletive committee.

l � conce�ning the.�a p�ointm�ent. of Councilman Kammeyer to the City
Council , in that e sremployed by the Heissermsn Fuel •Co. This -
matter liad been reviewed prior to the eppointment of Couneilmen
Kammeye� by .Lyle Schneider, former City Attorney. The statute �
' wherehy it states e councilmen cannot be employed . by a firm
doina business with the City in an amount exceeding $100.00 per
month, does not app ly to e� emp loyee. K am m e y e r s t e t u s e t t h e t i m e .

�eviewina the whole situation, the City Attorney feels Mr. Schneid r
eras correct in his opinion and until the Attorney General stetes
otherwise, thet is the opinion of the City.
The othen item is the situetion concerning the previous. City
Cierk , Mr. Walker, concerning his positio� as Purehasing Agent.
There is a �uestion of legality concerning the extra compensation.
As far as the City is concerned, it has taken appropriate acEion
and the situation is nor remedy and thero is no position of
Purchasing Agent in the City of Auburn with the recent election ,of-
Mrs Herita4e. If there is any necessary action to be taken, the
Attorney Generai wil7 submit request to the City Attorney's office
