The meeting was called to order by Mayor Shaughnessy. Councilmen present: Haby, Petersen, Kammeyer, Fitz�'immons; Sonnemann, Towner and Gaines. Councilmen sbsent : None Minutes of the previous meeting held December 6, 1960 were approved as mailed. • PUBLIC HEHRING None - BIDS None HUDIENCE Mr. L.yman Neilson of the Stete Engineering District State Poiution •Control reported .on the dulnping of septic tank sol,ution �, at the disposal plant. Mr. Neilson stated the Nuburn plant cannot . handle that type of dumping and recommended the City di;scont.inue . this service as there are other places in this area ,that are . equipped to handle septic tank dumping. Mr. Neilson afso com- plimented the City Council on' hiring an efficient plant op`eretor like Jack Muir. H confirming letter will be written to "the Council on this subject. , CORRESPONDENCE WENDELL WORKMHN ' , The City Clerk read a letter from Wendell Workman stating he . has sold Roy's Taxi to Rob`ert Driggers and requests the license 6e' changed. � The City Clerk read a ietter from Robert Driggers cequesting the license be changed from Wendell Workman D.B.H. Roy 's Taxi to Robert Driggers D.B .H . Huburn Cab and that one more taxi stand be granted in front of 31 East Main. ' These requests were referred to the License Committee. ' CLNRK EOI�EMHN & �SSOCIHTES The City Clerk read a progress report from Clark Col"eman, and Associates. To date', approximately 39°J, of the project; is, c_ompleted. This letter was ordered filed. RICHHRD BHRNHRD The City Clerk read a Ietter from Richard Barnard peesenting an application for participation in the Insurance Commission for ?. the City of Huburn. This application was referred to Harry Lieske. � ERNEST F. CRANE ` ' - The City Clerk read a letter from Ernest F. Crane requesting' a va� iance upon lot I Block 2, Downing and Schroader's Hdditio� to Auburn . The prospective purchaser of the property would like permission to build a duplex 86 ' x 25' on approximately 5,497 sq. f . it was moved by Sonnemann and 2nd by Fitzsimmons that a public � hearing be held January 17, 1961. on this variance. MOTION CARRIED The Mayor instructed the City Engineer to take this matter to � the Planning Commission. - VHCHTfON The City Clerk read a letter from property owners of Forest illa,r� requesting e 30 x 661 .09 strip of land fo� road purposes 6e vacated, It was moved by Kammeyer and 2nd by Petersen'that the City ttorney be instructed to draft the necessary Resolution calling for a public hearing January 17, 1961 , for the vacation of this land: MOTION CHRRIED GEORGE SCHULER The City Clerk read a letter from George Schuler submitting or adoption the final assessment roll for L. It was moved by Petersen and 2nd by, Kammeyer that a public hearing be held January 17, 1961 on LID # 138 . MOTION CARRIED HUDIENCE MR. John Goar, representing the Burroughs Hccounting Machines presented a list of companies and cities that are pre= sently using their eqo+cpment. COMMITTEE REPORTS PURCHASING COMMITTEE � ' Councilman Haby stated the bid for legai publications, upon the £igures presented by the City Clerk , would go to Auburn Globe - News, low bidder. , � " I.t` was moved by Aaby and 2nd by Petersen that the bid for legal publications be awarded to the Huburn Globe News, with the following roll cail vote being recorded': - Haby, yes; ,Petersen, yes; Kammeyer, yes; Fitzsimmons, yes; 5onnemann, yes; Towner, yes; and . Councilman Aaby stated the� were considering awarding the - bid for the billing machine to National Cash Register upon re= . ' commendations of the City Treasurer. The City Treasurer stated some reasons why he preferred National Cash register. Mr. Goar stated their machines do the same job as the Treasurer stated National Cash Register does. • It was moved by Aaby and 2nd by Fitzsimmons that the awardin of the billing machine be tabled for further study. LICENSE COMMITTEE No report STREET COMMITTEE IT was moved by Petersen, and 2nd by Towner that . the balance due Rainier Asphalt for work done on LID 138 be paid, with the -following ro.11 call �laote be.ing recorde�: Naby, yes; Petersen, yes; Kammeyer, yes;- Fitzsimmons , yes; Sonnemann, yes; Towner, yes; and Gaines, yes. ' WHTER COMMlttee , i Councilman Kammeyer stated they awarded the bid for the pickup to Bothell Chevrolet. It. was moved by Kammeyer 'and 2nd by Fitzsimmons that the City Clerk be instructed to call for bids on a one story concrete ' block masonry building-,at the disposal plant, bids to be opened at 8 :,OO ,P.M. , January 3, 1961 . MOTION CARRIED It was moved by Kammeyer and 2nd by Fitzsimmons that the Council accept the tiid of Pennsalt Co. for chlorine with the following roll call vote being recorded: Haby,yes; Petersen, yes; Kemmeyer, yes; Fitzsimmons, yes; Sonnemann, yes; Towner, yes; and Gai,nes, yes. He would, theref.ore,. Iike Bowen 's wages continued ; under the present agreement until he resumes his duty. Bowen 's ; attorney i's hopeful that a settlement will be made to reimburse \ the city for wages paid Bowen.
