The meeting 'was 'called to order by Mayor Shaughness,y. Councilmen Present: Aaby, .Petersen, Kammeyer, Fitzsimmons, Sonnemann, Towner, �aines Councilmen Absent: None Minutes of the previous meeting held February 7, 1961 , were approved as mailed.- i".;c' PUBLIC HEARING None BIDS ' Bidsmwere received from the foliowing for the purchase of $75,000 City of Auburn G,O. Bonds: McLean & Co. bidding 2.9104`�,; National Bank of Commerce bidding 2. 840%; 5tate Finance Committee b i dd i ng 3.75`�0. It was moved by Kammeyer and 2nd by Sonnemann that these bids be referred to the Finance Committec � Purchasing Committee and th Meyor be instructed to appoint another councilman to give them power to act. , • MOTION CARRIED The Mayor appointed Counc'ilman Kammeyer as the extra man.. Bids were received from the following for supplying the �Vater Dept. with pipe and fittings; Pacific Water Works biddi,ng a total price of $629. 36, fittings only; U . S. Pipx 8. Foundry Co. bidding $13,085.50 plus tax, pipe only; Pac,ific S+ates Cast lron Pipe , bidding �13488. 20 plus tax, pipe and fittings . ' It was moved by ^vaines and 2nd by Sonnemann that these bids . be referred to the Water Committee and the Mayor be instructed to appoint another councilman to give them power to act. , MOTION CARRIED The Mayor appointed Counciiman Aaby as the extra man. Bids were received from the foliowing for 500 copies of the , zoning ord'inance booklets; Auburn`Giobe ��ews bidding l2 pages= E point type $154. 50, 20 pages-8 point. type, $1:97;50 plus tax. These bids were referred to the Planning Commission d� Purchasino Committee. AUDIENCE ' Mr . Knowles presented a petition from property owners in the vic'inity of IOth St . N .E. & I St. N .E. protesting astions of the City Engineer in ignoring the probiem of drainage of surface water. ' in that particular- area. Mr. Knowies stated he had talked with the Engineer but no action 6ad been taken. He said the Strset Dept : had been out there the day before and tried to, solve the probiem as best they coufd. The residents wouid Iike storm sewers constructed or some other solution to drain away the surfece water. This matter was referred to the Street .Committee along with the City Engineer. A repoesentative from McLean & Co. requested their bid check. be returned as tlieir bid was second high. Lt was moved by Towner and 2nd by Petersen that the request - from McLean & Co. to have their bid check returned be granted. MOTION CARRIED A request was made from the audience to have something done ' about the visibility of traffic for drivers approaching Auburn Ave. o� I �th Street. The trailers are parked so close to the hwy . that visibn of the south bound traffic is obstructed. Also care parked at St. Uincent DePaul obstruct the vision of north bound traffic. Everett, President of the Go-Cart Assn. requested monthssi�on to run go-carts two Sundays a month during the summer � rom 10 :30 A.M, to S:�G Pm. . ' without mufflers. � Ceuncilman Fitzsimmons stated the City I�as an: ordinance prohibiting the racing of go=carts' without mufflers, also, �hey' couid not issue a license. This request was referred to the License Committee with a report to be given at the next regular meeting. A question wes raised from the audience as to whether or not y the letter had been written to the 'Statc Hwy Dept. about the I�ight on West Main and the West Valley Hwy. Councilman Towner stated ' the Engiheer hed writtcn' the fetter requesting some otherv method ' of traffic controi . It was moved by Aaby and �2nd by Towner that the City Council request the State Hwy Dept. to change the traff'ic light at the intersection back to red and green. MOTION CARRIED CORRESPONDENCE NORTHYJESTERN MUTUAL INSURANCE The City Clerk read a letter from the Northwestern Mutual Insurance Co. recommending rejection o` the claim for damages 'submitted by Beverly J. Switzer. It was moved by Fitzsimmons and 2nd by Aaby that the Council . accept the recommendation of the Insurance �o, and reject the :: .. claim for damages submitted by Beverly J. �witzer, and the City 9ttorney be instructed to write the claiment informing her of the Council 's decision. MOTION CARRIED KIWANIS CLUB The City Clerk read a letter from the Kiwanis Club stating they a�e wholeheartily endorsinq the plan for a branch library , in South Auburn. - This letter was ordered filed. AUBURN JAYCEES The City Clerk read a letter from the Auburn Jaycess stating they had voted in favor of . the brench library in South Auburn. This letter was ordered filed. CARD OF THANKS ' � The City Clerk read a card of- thanks from Harold Clark for the get well card sent him. APPLICATION FOR CABARET LICENSE The City Clerk read an application for Cabaret License from I Louie Spane. � This application was referred to the License Committea. R. E. WOLFF The City Clerk .read progress estimate #7, West Hili Springs Improvement, Auburn Construction Co. contractor. Amount due r' t contractor, $3,775.08. ' It was moved by Kammeyer and 2nd by Fitzsimmons that the Council accept the recommendation of the Consulting Engineer, and pay Auburn constrcution Co. $3,775 .08. with thefollowing roll call vote being recorded: Aaby, yes; Petersen, yes; Kammeyer, yes; Fitzsimmons, yes; Sonneman�, yes; Towner, yes; Gaines, yes; The City .Clerk read a letter from R. E. Wolff recommending the acceptance of the East Hill Water System, and that if after 30 days no liens or ciaims are f- iled against the work and on pro�f ot payment of tax liabilities, the retained amount of $9,818. 96 be paicl. STREET GOMMITTEE Councilman Petersen stated the committee had investigatec] the etition presented by W. L. Fish regarding the opening of �d St. S.E etween 21st 8 22nd St. S.E. . The Committee recommends the street e left as is. WATER COMMITTEE Councilman Kammeyer stated the Water Committee has received price from Mr. Cuddie for cutting timber on the Wast Hill :� ' Iso, a performance bond wiil be posted before work is started. MOTION CARRIED Councilman Sonnemann stated the Police Dept. has ordered a . ew motorcycle as the old one is needing expensive repairs. . Inorcle o secure a better price for the old motorcycle, Sonnemann,stated, it is necessary to have the titie transferred immediately.
