Regular _.meeting of the City Council of the City of Au6urn
held, at 8:00 P.M, in the Couneil Chambers at the Citq Hall .
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Shaughnessy. :
Councilmen Present: Aaby, Petersen, Kammeyer, Fltzs3mmons,
Sonnemann, Towner, 6aines.
Councilmen Absent: None.
Minutes of the previous meettng he18 �eb�`�2T, 1961 were
approved as mailed.
PUBLIC HEARING
None

Bids were received as foliows for the purehase of cotton-
wood timber at the Coal Creek Watershed: Roy & Jack Cuddie
bidding $9.00 per thousand board feet; Parrino Bros. bidding
$10.00 per thousand board feet; a bid bond accompanied this bid;
Chester K . Edwa�ds bidding $19.03 per thousand board it. ;
F�ancis Richa�dson bidding $I7, 10 per thousand board it. ; Nelson

CORRESPONDENCE
PETITION
The City Clerk read a petition signed by 36 �esidents' re-
questing "relief from the noises nuisance, and annoyances
created from the operation of a �0-Cart race. track located across
from the Hillside Lanes on So. Hoaard Rd.° �
The City Clerk also read tro letters st�aoE�i�y protesting the
�unning of Go-Carts without muffle�s. The first was signed by
Mrs: Howard H. Bothel.l ; the second letter was from Leah and Katie
' M. Bissell who also objected to the running of motorcycle eaces
within the city limits.
GEORGE D. NdOLFF PETITION
The City Clerk read a letter from George D, Wolff with a
petition attached for re-zoning of property joeated at White Lake
from R-1 to C- I commercial , for the .purpose of running motorcyele
� races.
This petition was referred to the Alanning Commission and
the Board of Adjustments. '
� CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
The City Clerk read a letter from the Civil Service Commissio
�ecommending the recent dectsion rende�ed by the Superio� Court
relative to the June, 1960 sergeants examination, be appealed to
the..Supreme Court. '
Action will be taken later in the meeting.

rh.ich the Insurance` Committee recommends that the bid from the
Western Casualty Co, in the amount of $16,342.72 for gene�al
liebility,auto liability and auto physical damage insurance be
accepted. Other bids vrere: Continental Casualty, $25,658. 10 and
N. W. Mutual , $16,547.07.

lar duty as of Februa�y 4th, 1961 .
These letters were ordered filed.
HARRY G. KENNEDY
The City Clerk read a letter from He��y 6. Kennedy of
Kennedy's Garden Store requesting that the Council limit parking
on West ''Main St. between CC&� D Streets to two hours.
This request was refe�red to the Street Committee.

The City Clerk read a request from R. W, Arney requesting
permission to build' an incinerator with outside feed on the back.

This letter aas referred to the Board of Adjustments.
MRS. IVA DURHAM
�' :The City Clerk read a- Ietter� from M�s. Iva Durham requesting
that the Ci.ty pay he� doctor's bills amounting to $33.00 incu�red
when she fell , Jan. 4, 1961 on the sidewalk.
Thi.s letter and bill we�e referred to the Insurance Committe .
GEORGE SCHULER
The City Clerk read a letter written by .George Schuler and
addressed .to Paul McKay of the State Hwy Dept: requesting them to .
change the .eaution light at the intersection of West Mairt and the
West Vailey IBwy to a stop and go signal . �

The City Clerk read a letter from R. E, Wolff certifying the
500,000 gal ., steel tank has been completed according to specifi -
eations end r.ecommending its acceptence and: pay Pittsburgh Des
Moines Steel Co. the :retained amount of :$3578;..48. -

accept the r.ecomme�dations of the Consulting Engineer and pay '
Pittsburgh Des Moines the retained amount of $3,578.48, with the

TRANSFER ORDER �482 '
The City Clerk read T�ansfer Order �482 authorizing $14,000 be
tcansferred f�om the Parking Meter Fund to the Cu��ent Expense Fund
for pa,yment as p�ovlded in �he 1961 budget.
It was moved by Aaby and 2nd by Kammeyer that Transfer Order
�482 be approved, with the folloMing roll call vote being eeco�ded:

AUDIENCE
Mr.. Vance Venn made a request that the Future Far�ers of Ame�ica
be allowed fo construct s bomb shelter nea� the Fire Station.
Councilman Towner stated that he had talked with the Fire Chlef
� who had given. his permission to �build on the nocth side of the
� station. , ,
It was moved by Towner and 2nd by Petersen that this request be
granted. MOTION CARRIED
Mr. W. R. Fish spoke as representative for the people who had
si ,gned the petition to open the end of 'M" Street �fo� vehicle�
pass;sgeway. ° He asked the Council to affect a minimum 'standard
passageway by cunning a� grader through and removing stakes{
Louie Hit'chcock spoke also for. establishment of a right of way '
on the end of °M° Street.
Mayor Shaughnessy ezplained that unless proper road building
materials are used on stFeets the city could be liable in case of
a damege suit.
Street Supt. , Blinn, stated that the Street Dept. policy � is °No
nea gravel streets will be maintained by City unJess a RJW width
of not� less than SO;ftr-has;bedn• deeded to the City and a , graveled
roadray of not less than 34 ft. has .been constructed.°
Afte� _considerable discussion, the Mayor stated :that if the peo-
erty owner3' sffe"tted were willing to pey fo� the improvement of
his st�eet accorcling to. citq specifications, he felt arrangements
ould be made to open the street.
The City Enginee� and St�eet Supt. •est�p�ated the cost would be

hree councilmen to work with �the Engineer, City Atmorney and St.
upt. in effecting a feeseble solution to this problem.

Couneilman Kammeyer. stated the committee was considering

Counciiman Kammeye� also stated the bid had been a+rarded to

George Schuler !reported that the 6.S.A, is planning to sell the

xisting fire station be turned over to the City to provide' fire pro eo- 1
