Regulae meeting of the Ctty Council of the City of Autiurn held
at $c00 PM in the Council Chambers at the City Hall .
The meeting wa.s. called to ocder by Mayor. Shaughnessy. . ,
Councilmen Prese�t: Aaby, Petersen, Kammeyer, Fitasimmons,
Sonnemann, Towner, Gaines.
Counciimen Absent: None.
The minutes as mailed were approved with correction of typograp -
ica,l error changing motion Lost to Carried in motion regarding ordi -
ance to provide funds for Civii Service appeal of case regarding �Se -
geant's exam.

CORRESPONDENCE
AUBURN PUBLIC LIBRARY
The City Clerk read a letter from Betty Roberson of the .Auburn
Public Library in which she reported theft of two intercom speakers
Mayor Shaughnessy referred this letter to Councilman Aaby.

The City Clerk read a letter of thankssfrom Frances Hoyt for th
CounciC's action in enforcing the go-cart ordinance.
JOHN VERSOLENKO
The City Clerk read a request from John Versolenko. to remove a
parking 'meter from the front of his property as it interferes with
the new driVe-way he is constructing to his business establishment.
Councilman Towner made a motion that we remove the meter.
Petersen 2nd the motion.

The City Clerk stated that she had received and filed a copy .o
the Minutes of the March 9, 1961 Planning Commission 'meeting.
7he City Clerk read a letter from the Pldnning Commission reco,
mending approval of the petition of Mrs. Leona Neely to rezone her
property south , of Primary State Highway #2 and east of West Vatley
Highway from agriculture to ( ight manufacturing.
It was moved by .Aaby and 2nd by Kammeyer that the Planning
Commission's recommendation be accepted.
MOTION CARRIED
The City Cierk read a letter from the Planning Commission rec-
ommending approval of the petition of Myron Massey to rezone his
property south of State .Highway #5 from residential to special
property use . for the construction of a super merket. �
It' wa's moved by Kammeyer and 2nd by Petersen that the Planning
Commission's recommendation be accepted.

COMPLAINTS - LAWRENCE PETE
& BEVERLY SWITZER COCHRAN
The City Clerk stated that two Complaints were served against he '
City of Auburn,
The first was a suit of the Plaintiff Lawrence Peters in the
amount of $248.66 for damages to his automobile incurred when he r n
into a water hydrant, in Nov. 1960.
The second suit was that of Plaintiff Beverly J . Saitzer Cochr n
in the amount of $84,000.00 for infuries and disability she sustai ed
when the automobile she was driving struck a tree at 37th St. NW a d
B Streets on Nov. 26, 1960.
, It was moved by Kammeyer and 2nd by Petersen that these two cl ims
be referced to the insurance company.

TRAFFIC SIGNAL-GA�LAGHER'S CORNER
The City Clerk read a letter from the Washington State Highaay
ept. statin9 that present traffic conditions no longer warranted
a stop and go signal and their intention of installing a flashing
eacon instead of the flashing operation of the present traffic
signal . He suggested other improvements be made for better visi -
bility. Attached was a copy of a letter from R. G. Still , State
raffic Engineer concurring with the opinion of T, T. McLeod, Dis-
trict Traffic Engineer.
Rufus Dinges and others in the audience who represented residen s
of the West Hill area stated they felt the state had not made a tho -
' ough investigation and had ignored the complaints of those resident
most involved.
After further discussion by Council members and the audience,
ouncilman Aaby made a motion that the City Clerk be instructed to
arite a letter to the State Highway Dept. strongly urging the light
be changed back to stop and go and stating this request is by the
unanimous vote of the Council .
It was aiso requested that the City Engineer's personal recom-
mendation be sent the Department.
Kammeyer 2nd the motion made by Aaby.

M. W, Rector presented a petition signed by twelve residents
asking a change or removal of the large fiood light on 12th St. SE
be made.
The Mayor referred this to the LightCommittee.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
PURCHASING COMMITTEE
' Councilman Aaby moved that the City reject any and all bids on
the Printing of the Planning Commission booklets, and that new bids
with new specifications be called for at the next Council meeting.

MOTION CARRIEO
The Globe News representative asked why this action was being
taken. Councilman Aaby stated that there had been a misunderstand-
ing by one of the bidders as to when the bids were to be opened.

STREET COMMITTEE
Councilman Petersen made a motion and Towner 2nd that the City
lerk be instructed to Call for Bids to be opened at the April 4,
1961 Council meeting on a Maintaine� for the Street Department and
to advertise in the Daily Journal of Commerce and the local paper.
MOTION CARRIED
In reference to the request of Kennedy's Garden Store, Council -
man Petersen also made the motion that both sides of West Main St.
� between C & D Streats be limited to two hour parking.
Kammeyer 2nd the motion.
MOTION CARRIED
Councilman Petersen also stated what took place at the March 14
1961 meeting with Mr. Fish, Mr. Grimes, Mrs. Cunningham and City
of'ficials, in regard to the opening of "61d Street between 21st and
22nd. Mrs. Cunningham said she and Mr. Cunningham will deed their
land affected to the opening of this street provided paving, curb
and gutte�s be put in at no cost to them.
WATER SUPT. REPORT
Tom bolton reported the West Hill reservoir back in operation
afte� repairs and imp�ovements. Sincy tying into the former Distri t
80"s six-inch line to the no�th, the City has two, six- inch mains a le I
o absorb all the water from the reservoir, thus cutting pumping �

Councilman Kammeyer asked if the reward of $100.00 for informa-
ion leading ;to the .conviction of vandal,s was publicly advertised.
The Mayor stated that i.t had been in the local papers. '
Mr. Dinges suggested thie possible er,ection :of new entrances at
he Cemetery to avoid further, vandalizm.
