Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Auburn held
at 8:00 PM in the Councij Chambers at the City Hall .
The meeting was called to order by Mayo� Qhaughnessy.
Councilmen Present: Aaby, Petersen, Kammeyer, Fitzsimmo�s,
Sonnemann, Towner, Gaines.
Councilmen Absent: None.
The minutes were approved as mailed.
PUBLIC HEARING
None.
BIDS
None.
' CORRESPONDENCE
WHIPPLE, MURPHY, PEARSON & ASSOC.
The City Clerk read a letter from Whipple Murphy, Pearson &
Associates who are interested i� giving the �ity professional ad-
vice o� the problem of seaage collection, treatment, and disposal .
The letter was referred to the Water-Sewer Committee.
Councilman Kammeye� stated that several firms have contacted
the Water Department in this eegard, and the Committee will con-
sider them whe� ready to give this matter further study.

Tha City Cierk read the month �y �eport of Clark-Coleman and
Associates which is on file in her office.
NOTICE OF CONDEMNATION
The City Clerk stated a Notice of Condemnation in connection
with the construction of part of Primary State Highaay #S had
been se�ved on the City as evell as residents involved. On May 12,
1961 this petition will be heard in the King County Courthouseand
atrial date set.
, RODE, COOK, WATKINS AND ORTH
The Cle�k �ead a letter from Rode, Cook, Watkins and Orth,
Attorneys at Law stating that the lawsuit of Plaintiff Lawrenee
Peters has been settled and that he cannot pursue any furthe�
action against the City because of his aecident in ahich his car
ran into a hydrant on Main Street.

A progress report on Alterations to the City Hall from Arehie
Fry, Architect, was read by the Clerk. Payment numbe� 3 is now
due the contrector in the amount of $8299.88.
The motion was made by Sonnemann and 2nd by Kammeyer that this
amount be paid Calhoun Construction Company.

PETITION TO REZONE - D. BOTTING
The Clerk read a petition to rezone the prope�ty of David and
� Ruby Botting located at 903 - 4th NE Auburn, f�om R-2 to Special
Use for resident real estate office. The petition was also signed
by the Pa6tor of Messiah Luthe�an Church.
' The petition was referred to the Planning Commission.
BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS
The Clerk read a letter from the Board of Adjustments staticrg
that a public hearing had been heid on the George D, Wolff request
for a permit to schedule motorcycle races on his p�ope�ty on White
Lake.
The Board recommends that the request be denied because it is
not beneficial to the City as a whole.
Councilman Towner made the motion and Aaby 2nd that the Councii
accept the recommendation of the Board of Adjustment.

Councilman Aaby made the motion and Kammeyer 2nd that the
Council accept the Planning and Purchasing Committees' �ecommenda-
tion to award the bid to the Auburn Sun for printing maps and book
lets of Zoning Ord. � 1428 : Aaby, yes; Petersen, qes; Kammeyer, yes
Fitzsimmons, yes; Sonnemann, yes; Towner, yes; 6aines, yes.
MOTION CARRIED
Aaby a� so made the motion that the contract lease on the Aubu�n
Boosters parking lot be �enewed for another year with the exceptio '
that the City keep all of the reven�e coilected from the parking
meters thereon.
Sonnemann 2nd the motion.

Councilman Kammeyer made a motion and Towner 2nd thet the City
accept the Coal C�eek timbe� bid of Nelson W, Ulery: Alder $iI .DU
Maple $II .00; Hem�ock $20.00; Fir $46.55; providing that Utery fir t
produce the bond and sign a contract.

LIGHT COMMITTEE '
Councilman Gaines reported that there are no funds available at
this time fo� lights in tfie Forest �lilla area, and suggested the City
wait until nezt year ahen fu�ds can be budgeted.
Gaines �equested the City Clerk arite M�, Sa�kowsky i�forming him
of this action.
�aines also made the motion that the City file an official inte -
veners petition with the Interstate Commerce Commission listing th
correct docket numbe�, to assure permission for the City to be hea d
at the proceedings ort the proposed railroad merge�.
Towner 2nd this motion. �

POLICE COMMITTEE
Councilman Sonnemann reported that he had been i6formed by the n-
tractor that the jail rnnst�uction is ahead of schedule to date.
WATER SUPT. REPORT
Tom Bolton reported a check in the a,ount of $1349.35 had been
received from Dickman Lumber Co, for logginq on the West Hill ,
They expect to complete the operation by the end of May.
STREET SUPT. REPORT '
George Blinn reported that the South End Storm sewer project is
noa 90% complete.
Blinn also reported that per request the signs limiting parking
in front of the Post Office have been changed to 15 minutes.
ENGINEER 'S REPORT
Mayor Shaughnessy asked George Schuler regarding prog�ess of wor
on 2tst and F St. SE.
Schule� reported that the street will be reconstructed and oiled
as soon as the aeather is favorable.

POLICE CHIEF
No report.
The Mayor commended �tMe Aubu�m Police Department on the fine �� .
safety �ecord they have maintained, and presented Chief Ludwig .
with an awa�d ee�tificate from the National Police Association for
menitorious service.
. AUDIENCE
Complaints rere heard from Cliff Fellows of the Rainbow Cafe.,
and from Mrs. Swanlund, wife- of the owner of the Brook Hotel Build
' ing, in regard to the ezcessive charge for garbage collected by
the Johnson and Johnson Disposal Co. They stated the gartiage was
being picked up oftener than need be, and that their bill which
had doubled for the past month .was ,excessive.
The City Treasu�er stated that he had received many other com-
plaints in this regard.
The City Atto�ney said according to the present ordinance any
garbage_ .collected over the .two-can �Iimit should be contracted be-
tween the property owne� and the collector. The property owner .
has the p� ivilege of disposing of his garbage other than through'
Johnson' �isposal if an agreement batween the two cannot be �eached.
Mr. Eellows . asked if , it. aould. be satisfactory fo� them to pay
wfiat� they, have ordinarily been paying for garbage until this can
6e settled.
The Council felt this would be fair.
-The Mayor assisgned responsibilities relative to garbage eol,=
lection to the Pu�chasing Committee, whieh will investigate the r„-
matter fu�ther.

Befo�e the vote, Couneilman Gaines made a motion that the Coun il
table the motion to adopt this Ordinance until the nezt Council
meeting.
After considerable discussion the motion to table was voted on
' and was LOST.
