Councilmen Present; Aaby, Petersen, Fitzsimmons, Sonnemann, , Gaines. ' Councilmen Absent: Kammeyer, Towner. The minutes were approved as mailed. BIDS None. CORRESPONDENCE ' REQUEST FOR SIGN ON K STREET SE The City. Clerk read a request signed by some twelve p�operty owners for the erection of a sign on K St. SE near the Pioneer � Elementary School between 21st and 25th Streets, asking motorists to slow down in the interest of eafety for children. L. J. Caroilo spoke from the audience, stating that motorists generally travel at a tiigh rate of speed on this street, and that pets have been killed by cars having a difficult time stopping due to the gravel road. The residents wish to prevent this happening to their youngsters. -- . The Mayor referred the request to the Street Committee. NOTICE TO ABATE NUISANCE. The Clerk read a letter addressed to the Council from George Schufer advising that a Notice was sent to David A. Botting 'to abate the nuisance of tall grass on his property in accordance with Ordinance # 1356. A copy of this Notice is attached to Schule '.s lettee. Mr. Botting spoke to the Council , stating .that he felt that if such Ordinance is to be enforced on some property,. oaners, it should� be enforced on all under similac circumstances. �M�. Bottin said he hed not as yet . received this Notice; and that he did not , fe81� the grass �on his property constituted a fire hazard., _ : CLARK-COCEMAN & ASSOCIATES The Clerk read a letter from Clark-Coleman & Associates in ahich they presented an , outline of survey and central d.ist�ict plan for the City. of: Auburn, and setting forth terms ' for payment of same. " ' A letter from the Planning Commission recommended that the ' City finance the entire study to expedite the solution of the parking and traffic problem of our central business distriet. The fee, in this case would be $8,000.00. ` " Mayor Shaughnessy will call a_ meet.ing' of the_ Finance and .Stree Committees along wi'th "the City Attorney and Ci'ty Engineer to study this proposal before the next regular Council meeting. ARCHIE FRY - ARCHITECT The Clerk read two changes submitted for approval by _Archie Fry on the constcuctio� of the new Jail amounting to $105.04, _ Sonnemann moved. and 6aines _2nd the motion that the ArcFiitect's proposed alterations be approved. Council members felt that this should be raised to someirhere between $60.DO and $80:00 per month, and the City Clerk was re- quested to confer with F;H,A, on such an increase. Promotions spoke negarding his application for a race. course license to race motorcycles, horses, and cars at the No Bar Ranch on White Lake. Action was. taken later in .the meeting. Mr. Goldsmith asked the Council whether an Ordinance accepting the �eplat of Muckleshoot Heights would be acted on at this meet- ing. The replat is basically. to add an access road and to change one lot i � the area. Atto�ney Smythe stated the Ordi �ance was ready and would be taken care of later in the meeting. tCOMMITTEE REPORTS : , PURCHASING COMmITTEE No report. FIRE COMMITTEE Councilman Gaines made a motion to Call for Bids on the pur- chase of a 1961 pick-up truck for the Fire Department; specifica- � tions to be obtained from the City Clerk 's office, and bids to be opened at 8 PM on July 5, 1961 . Committee felt the race course license application of S.E.T. Promotions should be denied. Representatives of the race course stated they feel the City has nothing to gain by refusing this application. The City Attorney stated that he and Attoeney� Alva C. MOTION CARRIED Councilman Gaines also asked that the Clerk w�ite a letter to ' the State Nighway Department stating that we accept their proposal to beaufiify C St. . Gaines made a motion and Sonnemann 2nd that the Clerk write to the G.S.A, that upon abandonment of their Post Office, the City of Auburn be considered in the disposal of the building and si'te; and that a copy of this letter be sent to Senators Jackson and Magnuson. MOTION CARRIED It was requested by Councilman Gaines that the City Planning Commission look into the possibility of annexation of adjoining territo�y to straighten boundry lines. Mayor Shaughnessy said he will take care of this. PARK DEPARTMENT No report. The Mayor presented copies of proposed appointments to Commission positions. He requested each member add the Health O.fficer 's name, Dr. Brandt, to their lists. The Mayor requested the Council be prepa�ed to act on these appointments at the next meeting.
