The meeting was caJled to order. by Mayor Shaughnessy. Councilmen present; Aaby, Retersen, Kammeyer, Fitzsimmons; Sonnemann, Towner, and Gaines`. The clerk read the cornecti'ons in the minutes as mailed and wi.th the changes, the minutes of the previous meeting held September , 5; : 1961 were approved. BIDS ' SEWER RODDING MACHINE Sealed bids for supplying a sewer rodding machine were received opened and read as follows: HALLGREN CO. , INC. SIDEWALK REPAIR A bid was received from the Miller Construction for the removal and replacement of sidewalks under the City of Auburn's sidewalk repair program. Removal and replacement of 4" sidewalk : , One to ten sq. ft. $4.50 per sq. ft. ; eleven to one hundred sq. ft $I . 50 per sq. ft. ; over �one •hundred sq. ft. $. 75 per sq. ft . Remova:l and replacement of 5" concrete ( driveways) : One' to ten sq. ft. �4. 60 per sq. ft. ; eleven to one hundred sq. ft. $ f.60 per sq. ft. ; over one hundred sq. ft. $.85 per sq. ft. ' This matter was referred to . the Street Committee, and Aaby with power to act. CORRESPONDENCE BUSINESS & PROFESSIONAL WOMEN A letter was received from the_ Business & Professional Women ' of Auburn requesting that the business lot on the northwest corner of Auburn Avenue and Main Street be .cleaned up. A letter was received from Auburn Post No. 78 of The Hmerica Legion requesting the city administration ' s approval of sponsorshi by the Post of Auburn Day in 1962. It was moved by Petersen and' seconded by Towner that the request for sponsorship of Auburn Day 1962 be granted. C.ouncilmen Gaines & Sonnemann 'brought up the question of whether the J .C, s might be interested in continuing their sponsor- ship of the day. AUDIENCE TRUMAN, OF THE F�EXIBLE PIPE TOOL COMPANY Mc. Truman of the Flexible Pipe Tool , Company inquired whether the Counc_iI would like to hear his presentat.ion o,f. the machines his company had bid on or whether he should meet with the committe . The mayor stated it would be better for him to= meet with the committee. � COMMITTEE REPORTS • No Report FIRE No Report LICENSE Fitzsimmons reported for the License Committee submitting an ' application from the Burdic Feed Store of Kent, Washington for 'a Side Sewer License. It was moved by Fitzsimmons and seconded by Aaby that the Sid Sewer Liceose be granted � MOTION CARRIED STREET Peterson reported for the Street Committee saying that some work had ' been done on the edges of 3rd Street S.E. and that it will be graded soon . Peterson then brought up the request of Rainier Glove Company for limited parking of 2 hours on the South side of their business location. 1t was moved by Petersen and seconded by Towner that 2hr. pan ing go into effect on 2nd Street S.E, from B Street S.E. westerly to t e alley. MOTION CHRRIED WHTER Kammeyer reported for the Water Committee. He stated that Ulery Bros: had ceased work on the Iogging of timber, `that tirnber he had cut was deteriorating and •consti�tuted a fire hazard'on the ' water shed; also that Ulery had promised to resume work and failed to do so as agreed. . It was moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Gaines that the City Httorney be instructed to write a letter to Ulery Bros. and send a copy to his Bonding Company stating that Ulery must resume continuous operations not later than September 25, 1961 , or further action would be taken with the Bonding Company MOT I ON CARRJ ED LI�HT It was moved by G.aines and seconded by Kammeyer that 6000 Lumi Iights be installed as follows; One on Kniakerbocker Drive, one on Aaby Drive, and two on Hi -Crest Drive. No Report ENGINEER No Report CHIEF LUDWIG t Chief Ludwig presented the Mayor and Councilmen with a letter of resignation as chief of police, effective as of December 3l , 1961 . Chief Ludwig has been with the Police force for thirty-three years, thirty of which he was the Chief of Police. It was moved by Aaby and seconded by Kammeyer that a vote of thanks be given to Chief Ludwig for his long term as Chief of Police and officer. MOTION CHRRIED ORDINANCE N0. 1466 It was moved by Fitzsimmons and seconded by Petersen that Ordinance No. 1466 entitled "HN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUBURN WHSNINGTON, PROVIDING FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF PORTIONS OF CERTHIN � STREETS IN THE CITY OF HUBURN BY THE CONSTRUCTION OF CONCRETE CURB AND GUTTERS, HSPfiHLTIC CONCRETE PAVING HND NECESSARY STORM DRA,INAGE, ALL IN HCCORDANCE WITH PETITIONS SIGNED BY H MHJORITY OF THE HFFECTED. PROPERTY OWNERS HND FILED WITH THE CITY CLERK OF SAID CITY, "HND H CERTIFICATION OF. ORDINHNCE N0. 1467 ' It was moved by Kemmeyer and seconded by Petersen, that Ordinance No. 1467 entitled "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AUBURN; WASHINGTON DECLARING A PUBLIC EMERGENCY TO EXIST AND REQUI.RING THE APPROPRIHTION OF $7,800.00 FROM THE BETTERMENT RESERVE ACCOUNT --WATER FUND SECTION OF THE WATER SEWER FUND OF TNE CITY OF HUBURN FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING NECESSHRY FUNDS FOR H SEWER SURVEY FOR THE CITY OF HUBURN", be introduced. MOTION CHRRIED ORDINHNCE N0. 1465 Smythe reported that Ordinance No. 1465 had been mailed to all the councilmen, and will be presented for adoption at the next council meeting. �.. RESOLUTION N0. 75 Schuler reported on the sidewaik repair project as provided in Resolution No. 75 . He said that a public hearing had been held , on September 7, 1961 with only one complaint. He requested permission to proceed with the sidewalk repairs and have costs assessed against the property owners. , , It was . moved by Fitzsimmons and seconded by Haby that Schuler go ahead with the sidewal.k repairs after the required fifteen days foJlowing the pubiic hearing had elapsed. � MOTION CHRR.IED Sonnemann asked if there had been a formal call for bids on sidewaik repairs as the bid received seemed high. Chief of Police for the City of Huburn'. ULERY ' Ulery stated he would be back to work Monday. As he was not. present earler in the evening when the motion was made to send him a letter, he was informed of this decision and details of same.
