AUBURN WASHINGTON TUESDAY NOVEMBER 7 1�961
Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Au6urn,
held at 8:00 P.M, in the Council Chambers at the City Hall,.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Shaughnessy.
Councilmen' present: A'aby, Kammeyee; Fitzsimmons, Sonnemann',
Towner, and Gaines.
Counciiman absent: Petersen
BIDS
RAINIER ASPHALT PAVIN6 COMPANY
' A bid was received from the Rainier Asphalt Paving Company of
Renton, for the resurfacing of Third Street N.E. & N.W, between
Auburn Avenue and the Northern Pacific Railway R/W accompanied '
with a bid bond in the amount of 5� of the total amount of bia
based upon the estimated quantites.
It was moved by Towner and seconded by Fitzsimmbns that the
above contract be awarded to the Rainier Asphal.t ��Paving Company,

Two bids had been received for the 1962 garbage contract.
It was moved by Aaby..:and seconded by Gaines .that the garbage
bids called tor at the lasf' Council Meeting be returned unopened
due to errors and omissions in the specifications, and that. a
new .call for sealed bids for 1962 garbage service be made, bids
to be opened at the No4ember 21 , 1961 Council Meeting. •

CITY BEAUTIFICATION � � '
Mrs. Carl Wedeen and Mrs. Glena Miller representatives of the
Women.;s Club who are working on 'the beautification of 'Auburn
inquired if there was anything the City could do to requi �e tfie "
residents of the former Dr. Hoye home to emprove the appearance
of the place.
The Mayoc stated that , it was �private property and he doubted
_ that the City could do anything. However, he asked the �ity �
Engineer, George Schuler, .to look into the matter: ' -
AUBURN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE •
' A letter received from the Auburn Chamber of Commerce request d
the Council 's help in regulating the burning of oit ; grease, rubbe
in tires, and old cars, as a step to protect the work of Auburn
citizens in their effort to beautify the City.
This matter was turned over to the Fire Committee.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LAND PURCHASE
A letter received from the Auburn School District stated -tliey
would Iike to purchase at Ieast 10 'acres of land on the West Hill
from the Gity f.or an elementary school site. • •
The matter .was referred to the' water committee.'

A letter ceceived from Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Klontz �equested the
vacating of the North fifty feet on the co�ner of tWenty first

a Col -de-sac. The matter was referred to the P•lanning Committee.
It was moved by Aaby and ,seconded by Kammeyer that the City �
Attorney be instructed .to draw up a resolution asking fo� a public
hearing on this request. �

Kammeyer reported for the Water Committee stating that they
had met on the proposed sewer expansion program,� and had decided
on site "B°. Iocated West of the East Valley Highway. This propert '
is own,ed by two parties-- one of which is asking 2600 per acre and
the othen 3000 per acre. A six month option can be had on the
property for $500 pe� t�act to each owner.

Blinn reported that the subg�ading �nd rebalasting of 6th
street had been completed. He also said that the Street Departmen
had been working with the Park Board on the Cristopher entrance,
and that they had sta�.ted lay ing the 18° culvent pipe. in the
existing di2ch. line on 30th Street Northeast. .
CITY ENGINEER
Schuler reported that the Central Business ,District Plan will
be eompleted in about two weeks, and at that time vill be su6mitte
to the Council� ,and others` interested for furthec, study.

- WALLY BYAM CARAVAN CLUB '
Mr. Ca�lson, president and Mr. Smith, vice president of the
Wally Byam Caravan Club requested the use of the ninety-four acre
site North of the City which the City of Auburn has unde� option
at the ,pnesent time. They want the use of the property from the
ISth of June through the Sth of July.
It v►as moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Gaines that if the
city still has the option or then owns the property that it be
turned o4er to the Waily Byam Caravan Club for use for their 1962
convention.

It was moved by Gaines and seconded by Kammeyer that the Ci,ty
Clerk be instrueted to write a letter conveying this decision of t e
City Gouncil , and extend an invitation to the Wally Byam Club to
hold their 1962 convention in Auburn.
