AUBURN, WASHINGTON TUESDAY NOVEMBER 21 , 1961
Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Auburn,
held at 8:00 P.M, in the Council Chambers at the City Hall .
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Shaughnessy.
Councilmen present: Aaby, Kammeyer, Fitzsimmons, Sonnemann,
Towner, and Gaines. " � "
Councilman absent: Petersen. •
Minutes of the previous meeting held November 7, 1961 were
approved as mailed.
PETERSEN 'S RESIGNATION AS COUNCILMAN
' A letter received from George Petersen requested that the
Council accept his resignation as ,councilman.
It was moved by Towner -and secorided by Kammeyer that the City
Councif accept the resignation of George Petersen as Councilman:

Mayor Shaughnessy announced he had asked Ted Lea to fill the
unexpired term of .Petersen. •
It aas moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Aaby that- the appoin -
ment of Lea be approved, with the following roll call vote being,
recorded: Aaby, yes; Kammeyer, yes; Fitzsimmons, ,yes; Sonnemenn,
yes; Towner, yes; and Gaines, yes.

The Mayor announced the public hearing on Final Assessment Roll
"of L. I .D.#139.
It was moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Sonneman� that the
Finad assessment Roll on L. I .D. #139 be accepted and the City '
Attorney: be_ instructed to draft an ordinance on same, with the -.
following roll call vote being recorded: Aaby yes; Lea, .yes.,

EARL DECKER RETIREMENT
A letter received from Statewide Retirement stated Council
action��was necessary to extend the � retirement date of Earl J.
Decker.
It was moved by Sonnemann and , seconded by Kammeyer that the
retirement date for Earl J . Decker be extended one year. .

REQUEST FOR ANNEXATION
' A request, signed by fifteen residents of the area, was read
requesting annexation of the area southeast of Auburn, bounded on
south, East by Stuck River, on West by M Street and on the North
by 29th Southeast.
This request was referred to Gaines, fire committee, George
Schuler, and the City Attorney.
DRAWING FOR COUNCIL POSITIONS
The City Clerk �assigned council position numbers for the
forthcoming city election by having the outgoing council members
draw numbers. Position No. l , now held by Fred Towner, Position
No. 2 now held by Aaby, and Position No, S now held by Fitzsimmons
PURCHASING .
It was moved by Aaby and seconded by Kammeyer that the City
Clerk call for sealed bids for furnishing janitor service for the
Auburn City Hall building �for the year 1962.

' '' Fred Towner stated he had met with the Fire Chief regarding a
letter rece'ived last meeting from the Auburn Chamber of Commeree
on regulating the burning of oil , greese, rubber in tires, and
old cars. Councilman Towner reported that the Nuisance Ordinance
would cover this situation, but a signed complaint had. to be made.

. Councilman Towner- r.eported that the street committee had met
, on the request for a ccosswalk :on the Enumelaw Highway, � : A lighted
crosswalk will be installed as soon as the material is received.
Towner reported that Waldo Carlso� of the Chamber of Commerce
catted �Lry tp dnfprry the Eity Council that the cities of Kent and
Renton were ptanning on giving free parking from I :00 P.M, till
6:00 P.M: from December 4, 1961 until Christmas and requested
Auburn to do likewise.
• - . ; .. This .matter was referred to the street committee and Sonneman
with power to act.
LICENSE �
It was moved by Fitzsimmons and seconded by Sonnemann that =
- upon payment of fee a concession GoKart Track License be granted
to Tucker & Tirreli of 1900 Howard Road� with the hours being
' from 4:A0 to 10:00 during the school week, 61 :00 to II :00 on
Saturdays 6 During Summer. 1 :00 to. 10:00 on Sundays.

ENGINEERING SERVICES
It was moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Fitzsimmons that the
City Attorney be instructed to draw up a resolution authorizing
the Mayor and Ci:ty Clerk to sign an agreement with Richard E.
Wolff, a ficensed engineer, for improvements to the municiple
seaerage system inciuding extensions of trunk sewer system, a new
sewage treatment facility and laterial connecting sewers.

Mayor Shaughnessy reported he had appointed High R. Darby
as Police Chief starting January i , 1962, to ceplace Chief Ludwig
whose, resignation is effective as of that date.

R. Darby be appointed Police Chief starti.ng January I , 1962, with the
following roll call vote being recorded: Aaby, yes; Lee yes; Ka meyer,

WATER SUPT.
Tom Bolton, Water Supt. reported that they had received their
Sewer Rodding Machine, and had been using it frequently and
finding' it most satisfaetory.

CHIEF LUDWIG
Chief Ludwig expressed appreciation for the luggage presented
him by the Council and Mayor. He also said.,that he. appreciated
the` cooperation qiven him and the Police Department by . the
administration during the present and past years.
. ; CITY EWGINEER
Schuler reported that he had attended the Naches Tunnel
Association meeting. He felt that the City of Auburn could help
this , association by �drawing up a resolution stating that the City
of Auburn is in favor of this tunnel and send copies to the Gover o� ,_.. _
and State legislature. „
It was moved by Towner and seconded by Kammeyer that the City.
pass. a resolution in favor of the Naches Tunnet and send copies
as suggested.

Schulec 'reported that a meeting will be held in the Council
Chamber, at II A.M, November 29, 1961 in regard to the East t
Valley Highway, with the City Officials and the State Highway
Department Officials.
