The meetinq was called to order by Mayor Shaughnessy. Councilmen present: Aaby, Lea, Kammeyer, Fitzsimmons, Sonnem�nn, Towner, and Gaines. Minutes of the previous meetina held January 2, 1962 were approved. CORRESPONDcNCE RE:�UEST FOR REZONING ' A letter from Don Thompson was read requesting a rezoning from R-3 Residential to C-3 Commercial on the following described property: Lots 9 and 10, Blk 7, Hart's First Add. To Auburn. This request was referred to the Planning Commission. � PcTITION TO REZONE A petition from Barry & Phyllis DeVice was read requesting a rezonina from R-2 to C- I on property located at 3415 Enumclaw Highway. The petition was signed by six property owners lying within a 200 foot radius of the property, stating that they had no object 'Ion to the rezoning. This petition was referred to the Planning Commission. FINANCE It was moved by Aaby and seconded by Kammeyer that the City Clerk call �:for sealed bids for furnishinq Compact Automobile for . the Planning Director, bids to be opened at 4 :00 P.�1 Tuesday February 6, 1962, specifications to be on file in office of city clerk . MOTION CARRIED , FIRE No Report LICENSE No Report STREET , I Councilman Lea reported that the "F" street underpass had been completed, and stop signs had been installed at the intersection of 12th and "B" streets �:E. Lea acknowledged a letter from the Chief of Police, and said that work requested therein would be started immediately. WATER I Councilman Kammeyer repor±ed that the City of Auburn by law cannot lease any of its property. It was moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Fitzsimmons that the City of Auburn refuse to negotiate an oil and gas lease as requested on the one hundred and twenty acres on the West Hill . ' MOTION CARRIED It was moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Fi �zsimmons that the Scarff Motor Company be awarded the bid for furnishing a truck for the 4�Jater Department and that the bid bonds on check of the unsuccessful bidders be returned to them. The following roil .call vote was recorded: Aaby, yes; Lea, yes; Kammeyer, yes; Fitzsimmons yes Sonnemann, yes; Towner, yes; and Gaines, yes. CITY PLANNING DIRECTOR George Schuler reported that he had handed out the C.B.D. pla s, and he asked that the City Council analyze the various ways listed for financing the plan. - CIINTON W. COTE, CITY ENGINEER Mayor Shaughnessy reported he had appointed Clinton b'J. Cote as City Engineer. REPORT ON ANNEXATION George Schuler regorted that the Board of Review for proposed annexetion of property to City of Auburn met Wednesday January 10, 1962. He stated the nine requirements under the new method of annexation had .been satisfactoriy met and the board had recommended the City to oo ahead with the annexation proceedings. REPORT ON FLOOD CONTROL MEETING ' Mayor Shaughnessy reported that he had attended a meeting in Renton with County Commissioner Ed Monroe and Mayors from Auburn, Kent, Renton, and Tukwilla on the Flood Control Program. MEETING ON NACHES TUNNEL Mayor Shauahnessy also reoorted that' he had attended a meetin ' in Yakima in regard to the Naches Tunnel PFogram. He reported tha� Ed CavanauRh_was doing a through job of setting up the Civil Defense program in thi area, He also said that Ed Cavanaugh had appointed Jack Grinnel ' as his second in command, and that a chain of command will be extablished and published so that in the absence of one man his command will be t�ken over by another. N , bVeatherford representing Albert Severson was no longer interested in leasing the West Hill property owned by the City for oil and gas rights. However, he said that another firm had approached him on this same matter. Ne talked to the attorney 9eneral who confirmed his opinion that the City of Auburn could not lease any property under the law, and theref.ore, he recommended tha.t the City Council turn down the lease requested by H.
