ICouncilmen present: Aaby, Lea, Kammeyer, Fitzsimmons, Sonnema n, �nechtel , and Gaines. ' Minutes of the Previous meeting held August 7, 1962 were appro ed �°: s mailed. CORRESPONDENCE PRELIMINARY PLAT OF H. T. HUGHES ' . ALEX SONNICHSEN A �letter received from Alex Sonnichsen in reference ta the reliminary plat of H . T. Hu,ghes Addition protested the stipulation f the Planning Commission that Cedar Lane be extended to the north line of the plat. George Schuler, Planning Director, stated that the Planning ommission had taken this action because they felt it was necessary o keep the land lying North of this street from being landlocked. RICHARD TURLEY REQUEST FOR L. I .D. �A letter received from Richard Turley 'requested an L. I .D. on ' Street 'Northeast to increase water . pressure in this area. � It was moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Gaines that the Ianning Director be instructed to give Richard Turley a petition orm to ci.cculate for the establishment of an L. I ..D. . MOTION CARRIE REQUEST FOR LEAVE OF ABSENCE WALTER WHITING ' A letter received from Walter Whiting, Street Department Empio ee, equested the Council take action to allow him a two months leave o ebsence starti.ng August 27, 1962. It was moved by Gaines and seconded by Lea that Walter Whiting e given a two months leave of absence,_ starting August 27, 1962. MOTION CARRIE WASHINGTON STATE POLUTION CONTROL CAMMISSION FEDERAL GRANT FOR SEWAG TREATMENT WORKS A letter received from Washington State Pollution Control ommission was accompanied with four copies of Part A of `the Offe� cceptance of a Federal Grant for Sewage Treatment Works Constructi n n which the City of Auburn is offered a Grant of $ 188,700.00 The ommissi"on requested :the forms be completed on or before August 23, 1.962. nd returned to their office with a certified copy of the resolution f authorization to accept the grant if the City wishes to accepf th � ffer. it was moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Fitzsimmons that the ayor & City Clerk be authorized to sign the necessary agreements �nd that the City Attonney. be instructed to draw up the necessary ' �tesolution for the acceptance of the Federal Grant for Sewage I Treatment Works Construction. PETITION TO REPLAT The report of the Planning Commission was read recommending th acceptance of this request be postponed until such time as the Commission would be assured that an adequate water supply was available. . IRA F. GREGG REQUEST TO REZONE � The. report of the Planning Commission was read recommending th denial of-the request of Ira F. Gregg to reione from R-2 Residential to R-4 Residentail Lots 5, 13 & 14, Block B French's Addition to Slaug ter. It was moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Sonnemann that the Council concur with the recommendation of the Planning Commission. MOTION CARRIED . _ H. B. SHINN REQUEST TO REZONE T.he r.eport of the Planning Commission was read recommending th epproval .of H . ,B . ' MOTION CARRIED MEDICAL PLANS SUBMITTED TO EMPLOYEES EI'isabetfi Heritage, City Clerk, reported to the Council that ' Industrial Hospital �lssociation & King County Medical had preaente their respective plans to the city employees at a meeting held August 13, 1962. After this meeting;-ball.ots .were given ,to all employees covered by `the Gity'.s 'present Medical Plan and King Coun y Medical had received the majority of vote by the employees. It was moved by Gaines and seconded by Kammeyer that King County Medical be designated as the A.gency to provide medical & surgical coverage for the City emp,loyeas` for the coming year. MOTION CARRIED RETIREMENT REQUEST BY CITY CLERK Eii�sabeth Heritage, City Clerk, stated she would like .to partici'pate in the city retirement system and requested the. approv I of the cou'ncil which , would, enable her to pick up-the payments from the, be,g'i nn i ng 'of her term. . It "was moved by Gaines and seconded by Aaby that the Council approve picking up payments for the city clerk ' s retirement, from the beginning of her term with the approval of the Finance Committ e. MOTION .CARRIED , The Mayor appointed .Councilmen Gaines, Knechtel and Aaby to supplement the Finance Committee with power to act. AUDIENCE , RIVER PROPERTY FOR PARK , Bill Raven, Park Board Chairman, requested the Council reconsider placing the River property on the ballot in conjuncti'on with the Terrace property, if other funds were not availabie for the purchase of this property. It was moved by Lea and seconded by Sonnemann that ,the Council request the State Highway Commiss,i.on to widen the Enumcfaw 'Highway from two to four lanes from the present terminus of the four lane portion to Howard Road'. MOTION CARRIED Councilman Ted Lea reported that it was the decision of the Street Committee to allow Job ' s Daughters to place a box for the collecfion of papers in the parking lot across from the present Post Office:- - WATER COMMITTEE Councilman Dick Kammeyer, reported for .the Weter Committee saying they had met with property owners from Hi Crest Drive,, and i had been decided that the property owners in this area would go together and. purchase a lift pump to help correct the inadequate water supply unt,il such a time as negotations with Weter. District � iVo. 64 are in effect. � LIGHT COMMITTEE No Report ' POLICE COMMFTTEE . � Councilman Ray Sonnemann, reported for the Police Committee saying that he had investigated the work to be done by Calhoun Construction Company on the Police 5tation before August l5, 1962, nd had found that a plumber had been in and repaired the plumbing but that nothing more, had been done on the bui.iding, thus far.. He recommended that a .letter be written to Caihoun Constructions bondi g company informing them of this matter. Mayor Shaughnessy directed Attorney Smythe to contact Statewid Retirement in regard to the money paid into the accou,nt for Howard , Bowen, �to find out what they intended to 'do about the ,portion paid by the City for pension. George Schuler, Planning Director, stated a meeting would be heLd Thursday or Friday in connection iwth the Central Business D.istrict at which time petitions would be checked and progress determ.ined. He stated he would have a,"report for the next Council meeting.
