Call to Order, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approval of Minutes: Vice Chair Colleen Maloney called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm. Commissioner Moore moved to approve the May 2013 meeting minutes. Nicole Evans Buck seconded the motion. All approved. Motion approved. Commissioner Nicole Evans -Buck moved to approve the June 2013 meeting minutes. Patricia Judd seconded the motion. All approved. Motion approved. II. Public Art Downtown Sculpture Gallery Downtown Sculpture Gallery Purchase Award Staff McKnight reported the "people's vote" tallies. Votes were collected online, in person, and collected a various special events. Turtle Island Puget Sound by Mark Stevenson received 77 votes /11 % of total; House with Round Windows by Nicky Falkenhayn received 15 votes /2% of total; Chakra by Kenneth Hall received 187 votes/ 26% of total; Road Runner by Dan Klennert received 130 votes /18% of total; Riparian Totem by Lin Rebolini McJunkin received 244 votes /34% of total; Eagle Song by Leo Osborne received 21 votes/ 3% of total; Tree of Life received 43 votes /6% of total. Riparian Totem by Lin Rebolini is the "People's Choice" Staff noted that the artist would need to deinstall the sculpture and powder coat the surface to make it appropriate for long term outside display. Commission members noted that this should be an item specified in the contract and "People's Choice" language in future years, that if work needs to be done to make it suitable for long -term exterior display, it is the responsibility of the artist. Heidi Harris moved to purchase Riparian Totem after powder- coating into the permanent public art collection. Nicole Evans -Buck seconded the motion. All approved. Motion Approved. Staff noted that locations for permanent installation would be explored and discussed at a future meeting. Downtown Sculpture Gallery Review Staff provided an overview and history of the Outdoor Sculpture Gallery program. A call -to- artists was circulated in July and we received submittals from 12 artists with a total of 19 sculpture pieces. The details of the call were re- stated, a map with the pedestal locations was distributed, and an overview of the selection process was introduced. The commission reviewed each of the submitted artworks and the associated materials (artist statement, resume) and determined the seven that would be extended a loan agreement. No more than one artwork per artist was selected, and a variety of sizes and medium were taken into consideration. Placement of each of the artworks will be discussed at the September 10 Public Art Committee meeting and reviewed at the October 1 Arts Commission meeting and deinstallation /installation will be scheduled for early October. III. Updates and Upcoming Events Staff noted that at the end of 2013 three current commissioners (Patricia Judd, Cary Davidson, and Leslie Moore) would be leaving as they have reached the maximum term limits (two -terms of three years each). Commissioners that have reached their term - limits can reapply after being off the commission for one years -time. Applications to serve on the arts commission are accepted through the Mayor's office and appointments are confirmed by the City Council. At the November meeting of the Arts Commission, a new vice -chair will need to be nominated with voting occurring in December. Next Arts Commission meeting will begin with an informational tour of the Auburn Valley Creative Arts Gallery (108 Division Street) that will last approximately 15 minutes. After which we will return to the conference room for the remainder of the meeting. Commissioner Colson noted the success of the Symphony concerts at Mary Olson Farm and that attendance has been about 100 people per concert.
