III. Correspondence /Public Input
Chair Bryce welcomes new board member Marsha Goodwin. Marsha moved back to Auburn in 1984, she
worked for the Boeing Company and retired a few years ago to care for her mother. Her husband was a
Horticulturist but he has passed away. She wishes she would have paid attention more because she now
takes care of her property.
Bryce explains that the Urban Tree Board has Tree City USA status, which allows us to apply for various
grants. In order to become a Tree City USA city, we must have a Tree Board, and a certified
Horticulturist. We also nominate a tree for Heritage tree status annually and participate in the annual
Arbor Day tree planting.
IV. Old Business
Secretary Julie Mehl shares that Parks Director Daryl Faber has approved the Tree Board request to offer
tree care tips and best practices to the local HOA's via the City's Community Services Department. Daryl
added that, if invited to a HOA meeting, he would like Jamie Kelly and / or Richard Valenti to attend with
the Tree Board member(s) and bring along some tree care vendors from the Small Works Roster.
