Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 2:03 pm by Chair Bryce Landrud. Additional board members attending were Marsha Goodwin and Lonnie Sundal. Arnie Galli is absent/excused, Jan Speer is absent/unexcused. Also present at the meeting were Parks Horticulturist Richard Valenti, Environmental Planner]amie Kelly and Parks Secretary]ulie Mehl. II. Minutes The October Tree Board minutes were approved unanimously. III. Correspondence/Public Input Marsha Goodwin asks about tree issues that arise where folks would contact the city. Jamie Kelly responds the City staff can go out and evaluate a tree, if folks simply don't want a tree I they would be responsible for paying for the removal if iYs not designated as hazardous. Jamie adds there are sometimes disputes between property owners regarding trees at which point they would have a professional analyze the tree(s). Bryce adds the goal is to keep folks from just cutting down trees any time they want. The City Horticulturist, Rich Valenti can only evaluate City owned trees. IV. Old Business (Landrud) V. New Business VI. Board Recommendations/Input Bryce attended the Planning & Community Development Committee meeting to give a Tree Board update. Nancy Backus is the Chair and is very suppoi�tive of the Tree Board efforts. The committee is aware of the dismnnect between citizens and the decision making person at the city. Citizens don't look at the website and tend to just call the City and expect an answer right away abouC their issue. Would like to become more familiar with the City system regardfng tree issues. They had interaction about the liason capabilities of the Tree Board, HOA's and city staff. 6ryce will go door to door tomorrow at GSA reyarding the Willow tree we would like to nominate as a Heritage Tree. Bryce has pruned,a few tim� in the past. VII. Department Report (Valenti) On October 15 the Aubum Adventist Academy planting project had twice the number of volunteers as originally planned. The planting on D Street between 6"'&8"' not everything got plantedwhere we originally wanted but was close enough. IYs hard to oversee 80 people,they knodced.it out fairly quickiy. 7amie Kelly shares the airpott cut down 270 Cottonwoods to maintain thefrairspace so they held a volunteer planting day at the Auburn Environmental Park for offsite mitigation. The Lea Hill Park Grand Opening was October 30. Over 100 people were in aftendance to celebrete the new park and the partnerships that went into the development, including Green River Community Coliege Foundation land suJap, a $60,000 King County Youth Sports Grant for the free game sport court area and a $20,000 Kaboom! grant for a portion of the playground. The Brannan Park community playground buiid oaurred on Saturday, October 19 and was a wmbined effort with Kaboom! and Delta Airlines. 220 volunteers came together to buiid ifie new play space at Brannan Park. They built tFie playground, set it in concrete, spread 130 yards of Fibar play chips, they also built 3 picnic tables, built 3 benches,a play board, 2 murals for tFie tiackstop, colorful tiles for the fence around theplay,area, planted i5.trees and 75 shrubs,and spread 60 yardsof beauty bark. At the end of the:day, Delta Airlines surprised all with a $10,000 donation to the Aubum Parks Departrnent and another$10,000 to the Aubum Food Bank. VIII.
