I. CALL TO ORDER
A. Roll Call
Deputy Mayor Backus called the Council Operations Committee
meeting to order at 5:00 p.m., in the Council Conference Room at
Auburn City Hall, 25 West Main Street in Auburn.
Members in attendance included Chair Backus, Vice Chair Rich
Wagner and Member Bill Peloza. Also in attendance were
Councilmember Largo Wells, City Attorney Daniel B. Heid and Deputy
City Clerk Shawn Campbell.

There was no announcement.
C. Agenda Modifications
There was no change to the agenda.
I I. CONSENT AGENDA
A. August 5, 2013 minutes
Vice Chair Wagner moved and Member Peloza seconded to approve
the August 5, 2013 minutes.
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 3-0
III. DISCUSSION ITEMS
A. Discussion of Ordinance No. 6441 with Revisions
Vice Chair Wagner moved and Member Peloza seconded to amend
the agenda to move Ordinance No. 6441 with revisions to full Council
for consideration.
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 3-0
B. Review of Junior City Council Applications
The Committee reviewed the applications received for the Junior City

Council. Vice Chair Wagner noted Olympic Middle School, Auburn
High School and Mt. Baker Middle School did not have any students
apply. The Committee discussed the importance of having
representatives from each school. Councilmember Wales suggested
the Committee select eight of the nine members and contact Auburn
High School requesting a representative be nominated. If an
appropriate candidate does not apply from Auburn High School
then the first alternate will be appointed.
The Committee selected Sydney Campbell, Tyler Cushing, Anton
Mahoney,Dalton Hands, and the Auburn High School / Alternate for
two year terms. The Committee selected Allison Hand, Mauricio
Martinez-Torrez, Olivia Thomas, Mary Riel to one year terms. The
Committee also selected Cole Lindell and Angelina Zalutskiy as
alternates.
Deputy Mayor Backus stated the Mayor's office will staff the Junior
City Council Committee meetings. The Committee requested a
Special Meeting of the Council Operations Committee be scheduled
for November 18, 2013 at 5:00 pm in Council Chambers to meet the
Junior City Council members.
C. 2014 Standing Committee appointments
Chair Backus stated the Committee would make standing committee
assignments at the December Council Operations Committee
meeting. The Committee could only discuss committee assignments
for Councilmembers not in the current election process. The
Committee discussed committee chair and vice chair assignments.
Councilmember Wales requested the Committee consider appointing
a newly elected councilmember to a vice chair position on an
appropriate committee.
IV. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business come before the Committee, the meeting
adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
