Department Report (Faber) The Brannan Park community playground build occurred on Saturday, October 19 and was a combined effort with Kaboom! and Delta Airlines. 220 volunteers came together to build the new play space at Brannan Park. They built the playground, set it in concrete, spread 130 yards of Fibar play chips, they also built 3 picnic tables, built 3 benches, a play board, 2 murals for the backstop, colorful tiles for the fence around the play area, planted 15 trees and 75 shrubs, and spread 60 yards of beauty bark. At the end of the day, Delta Airlines surprised all with a $10,000 donation to the Auburn Parks Department and another $10,000 to the Auburn Food Bank. The Lea Hill Park Grand Opening was October 30. Over 100 people were in attendance to celebrate the new park and the partnerships that went into the development, including Green River Community College Foundation's land swap, a $60,000 King County Youth Sports Grant for the free game sport court area and a $20,000 Kaboom! grant for a portion of the playground. We are considering an open air covered parks facility at Game Farm Park. The Community Sports Development Council offers affordable all season sports pavilions for $490,000. We could use a potential $100,000 grant from King County and perhaps $50,000 from another agency. It would also offer a tax break for this positive addition to the new portion of land we acquired at Game Farm Park. The facility would be suitable for lacrosse, soccer, baseball, flag foot ball and would be staffed and available to the public to rent. We made $100,000 from our turf soccer fields this year so these facilities almost pay for themselves and provide a good service. There is so much need for synthetic surfaces which are lighted. Over the past year we've been working on the Policy and Procedures Manual project — we have separated the rules from the laws in an effort to post signage so police can enforce with Auburn City Code (ACC) number reference. This will go through City Council next week. Isaac Evans property purchase - $22,000 we are looking at purchasing land with grant money. The Green River Trail will eventually go through the area. The West Hill lake property near Mountain View Cemetery needs to be named. We worked with a consultant and will keep the lake property natural. There is a goat trail going around the lake and a Scout Troop will build a foot bridge. We will work with Patricia Cosgrove at the White River Valley Museum and try to find out what the area was named 50 or 100 years ago. Auburndale Park — The frisbee golf person Tom Bontempto really wants to install a disc golf course but Daryl has told him no. Will hold a neighborhood meeting to get input from folks on what they would like out of the park. It's a great piece of land. Upcoming events: November 5 — Doolittle Raid Presentation. November 7 — British Export at the Auburn Ave Theater. November 9 — Veterans Day Parade. November 8 & 15 — Seattle International Comedy Competition.
