Introductions Pat opened his first meeting with introductions of guests: communications consultant Jennifer Rice and Deborah Tvverskyf[onl 4Cultuipe. Pat stated that he wants to emphasize fun at the board meetings and tomake all board' duties as enjoyable @s possible during his tenure. He recounted as story of a competition his father Ed and the Auburn Public Library Started in 1951, seeking to find the oldest in0ag8SOfAuburn. The photos from th,a1 competition became the start ofthie White River Valyey Historical Society. 8y1989 the White River Valley Historical Society was still an all-volunteer organization which had grown, yet th�eir leadership had" largely remained the same, and as a result were quite elderly. That group went to the City of Auburn and asked for some kind of partnership. Resultantly, in 19B0L the City hired Patricia Cosgrove to heUp design that partnership between the Society and the City, a,nd VOILA! Here we are today, R. President Pat asked for a review mfminutes, which were unanimously approved. U. Orientation tnBoard Service Deb Twersky A. Board Service and Role 0fVVRVMiD King County Deb said she came tm thank the board members and tell us of the importance of board service. Localmmu3euNms serve an important function; they help protect the identity 0f the community. 4CQ|tU[e works with cities, artists and historians and preservationist's county wide. Deb noted that our director, Patricia serves ou the board gf4Cu|ture.She said that the exhibitions and publications from: the VVKVIVI are really muts1andimg and the staff at this Museum is known for setting high standards which others endeavor tofollow. D. Board Service and External Communications Jennifer Rice, Consultant Jell Rice has been hired to review the Museums' public programs and communications, and to help Lis grow drop i�n attendance tg the Museum, She introduced herself as coming from Washington D.C., and noted that she has a background in Public Relations. Jell is developing an adv9rtiSi!OgCG0paigA, overseeing design nf posters and collateral material, providing an up to date press contact list, assisting with the writing of press releases and helping us find ways to target families with young children—our number one goal for ZQI4. U]. Break Out Sessions Board members broke into two groups, spending time with each CU[otVr, 8oi�ng over their subjects, the tasks they routinely work on, and goals for both Education and Collections for 2014. Patricia Cosgrove briefly reviewed the responsibilities Vf board members and asked each person to commit to two or three ways in that they can personally make a difference at the Museum and Farm in2Q14. VU. Administrative Goals for 3014 Patricia Cosgrove -CreateVisionStatennent Patricia poiinted out that the VV8VK4 has no vision statement. We will start to put together n vision statement this year and start tq review mtthe next board meeting. - Grow Programs in Response to Changing Demographics King County demographic has changed remarkably in the past decade, leaving us providing programs that are not necessarily designed for the correct audience. So throughout 2014 we will be reviewing data on our community, learning about those shifts in population and making changes in our external communications and programs to better fit them. VIII.
