Public Affairs and Marking Manager Dana Hinman shared to the Junior Council
that we would like their biographies on the website in order to promote them and
for the general community to learn more about them. Dana Hinman asked the
Junior Council to discuss what they would like to see on their section of the
website and bring their ideas to the next meeting to discuss as an agenda item.

website their goals and accomplishments.
Assistant City Attorney Doug Ruth went over the legalities of posting pictures and
information of the Junior Council on the website. The Junior Council will be given
parental consent forms at the next meeting.
B. Programming at the Community & Event Center (Faber)
Citizen survey, planned for this June, regarding programming of the
Community & Event Center.
Parks, Arts and Recreation Director Faber introduced himself to the Junior Council
and explained the goals and vision of the Community & Event Center. He would
like input from the Junior Council on what kind of programs and activities they
would like to see at the community center. A survey will be distributed throughout
the community and Director Faber asked the Junior Council to come up with
different ways on how to best get citizens to complete the survey. Member
Martinez-Torres feels that providing classrooms with a hard copy would yield the
best response from the youth community. Director Faber recommended having
the survey available at the City of Auburn’s Late Night event. Member Zalutskiy
would like to see a cheerleading program at the Community Center. Deputy
Mayor Wagner advised the Junior Council bring their community center and
survey ideas to the next Junior Council meeting to discuss as an agenda item.
C. Community & Event Center Operating & Financial Plan Background
(Faber)
Director Faber discussed the proposed format and cost of the community
center. Member Hands suggested having a large gathering area in the front
entrance. Director Faber agreed and explained that there will be a large lobby
area with furniture to give visitors an inviting atmosphere. Director Faber also
explained that the community center will be friendly for all ages. Member
Campbell inquired about transportation to and from the community center and
Director Faber explained that the city has a strong relationship with the Auburn
School District. The Auburn School District currently transports students to the
gymnasium at Les Gove Community Campus.
D. Downtown District Development
Deputy Mayor Wagner would like ideas from the Junior Council on what they
would like to see in Downtown Auburn. Suggestions included a bowling alley,
laser tag facility, ice skating rink and a swimming pool to offer swim lessons to
youth and adults.
