An Ordinanoe relating to taxes for operating punoh boards and raffles and amending Section 1 of Ordinanoe No. 846 of the Ordinanoes of the City of Auburn passed am approved February 17,1942. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That Seotion 1 of Ordinance No. 846 of the Ordinances of the City of Auburn entitled: "AN ORDINANCE to i~ provide revenue, regulating, and imposing a tax upon, punch !~ boards and other merohandising devices (except 'amusement devioes' l:,'j \.1:,' and 'vending maohines' as defined by Ordinance No. 794 of the City ~ ~ of Auburn) and raffles, requiring that suoh tax shall be paid in ': .::::: advance, and presoribing penalties for violations of the provi- j~' 'I sions of this ordinanoe." , passed and approved February 17, 1942, i " ,be and the same is hereby amended so that as amended said Section ; ;'" i 1 shall read as follows: i' j'i Seotion 1. City of Auburn any punoh board or other merchandising device (except 'amusement devioes' and 'vending maohines' as defined by Ordinanoe No. 794 of the ordinam es of the City of Auburn) , and any raffle for prizes, merchandise, money or other things of value, irrespeotive of whether such aotivity shall be legal or illegal under the laws of the State of Washington; Provided, however, that the provisions of this ordinance shall not apply to any regularly organized ohurch, veteran or fraternal organization, and shall not be oonstrued as an attempt to legalize any aotivity now or hereafter deolared to be in violation of the laws of this Stat e, but the illegality of suoh activity shall not be a defense or bar to the co11eotion of any tax imposed thereon by this ordinance. The tax herein 1eviea, on each raffle shall be five per oent (5%) of the total gross reoeipts or expected amount to be paid in and reoeived on aocount of suoh raffle. No tax is levied herein on penny punoh boards.
