ORDINANCE NO. 857
AN ORDINANCE regulating the parking and use ot ocoupied and/or
unoooupied trailer ooaohes in the City at Auburn, and tixing penalties
tor violations thereof.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN DO ORDJ.IN AS FOu.oWS:
Seotion l~ -This -ordinanoe, and~the entorcement thereof, is
deemed expedient to maintain the peaoe, good government and welfare of
the City of Auburn and its trade, ooItlllleroe and manufaotures, and
neoessary as a sanitary measure and :~or the proper safeguarding of the
pub1io health, safety and morals.
Seotion 2. Definitions. As used in this ordinanoe:
(a) "Trailer Coaoh" shall mean any vehicle or struoture used,
or maintained for use as a oonveyanoe upon highways or oity
streets, so designed and oonstruoted as to permit oooupancy
thereot as a temporary dwelling or sleeping plaoe for one or
more persons, having no other foundation than wheels or jaoks.
This definition shall not be j,nterpreted as llPplying to
equipment owned and operated by the armed foroes of the United
States.
(b) "Trailer Camp" shall mean any site. lot, field, or tract
of ground upon whioh two or more trailer ooaohes are placed,
and shall inolude any building, struoture, tent, vehi~l. or
enolosure used or intended tor use as a part of the equipment
ot suoh oamp.

(d) "Chief of Polioe" shall mean the Chiet of Polioe ot the
city of Auburn.
Seotion 3. It shall be unlawful for the owner, operator, or lessee
ot any trailer ooaoh, or any person in possession thereof;
(a) To park, or oause or permit the same to stand or to be upon
any publio street, avenue, park, alley, or any other pUblio
plaoe, within the o.orporate limits of the City of Auburn, for

(b) To park, or oause or permit the same, while used for living
and/or sleeping quarters, to stand or to be upon any private
property within the oorporate limits of, the City of Auburn,
except in a trailer oamp duly licensed to be operated as suoh
by said oity, and fully complying with the rules and regulations
ot the State Board of Health of the State of Washington govern-
ing sanitation. Provided, however, that a trailer ooach may be
lawfully parked for use and ocoupanoy upon private property
situate within the oorporate limits of the City ot Auburn for a
period of not more than ~~ hours, in oase the person in
possession thereof shall have first obtained trom the Chief ot
Police a written permit therefor, and from the owner or owners
of suoh private property a wr1'tten oonsent to suoh parking.

Seotion 4. It shall be WUawful for the owner, person in
possession or having control,of~ any private property situate within
the corporate limits of the City of Auburn to permit a trailer coaoh,
when at any time used for livipg and/or sleeping quarters, to be
parked on suoh private property, unless and until the person in poss-
ession of such trailer coaoh shall have exhibited to suoh owner, person
in possession or having oontrol of suoh private property, a written
permit therefor, signed by the Chief of Police.
Seotion 6. Removal of Wheels. Any removal or partial removal
of wheels of a trailer ooaoh. exoept for temporary purposes of repair,
or other action to attach a trailer coaoh to the ground by means of
posts, piers, foundation or skirting, shall subJect the trailer coach
to the requirements of the building ordinanoe of the City of Auburn,
as well as this ordinanoe.
Section 6. Penalties. Any person found guilty of violating
any provision of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more
than tl00.00, or by imprisonment for not more than 30 days, or by both
suoh fine and imprisonment. Every violation of this ordinance shall be
considered a separate offense.
Seotion 7. If any seotion, sub-division, sentenoe, clause or
phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held to be unconstitutional
or invalid, suoh decision shall not affect the validity of the remain-
ing portion or portions of this ordinance.
