Olivia Thomas on discussions at Rainier Middle School.

MINUTES
Chair Cole Lindell called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m. in Conference Room 3
at Auburn City Hall, 25 West Main Street in Auburn.
Junior City Councilmembers present: Chair Cole Lindell, Vice Chair Sydney
Campbell, Tyler Cushing, Dalton Hands, Mary Riel and Olivia Thomas.
Staff members present: Deputy Mayor Rich Wagner, Assistant City Attorney Doug
Ruth, Arts and Events Manager Julie Krueger and Council Assistant Antoinette
Manthey.

There were no announcements.
C. Agenda Modifications
There were no modifications.
II. CONSENT AGENDA
Motion by Member Hands to approve the May 19, 2014 minutes, seconded by Member
Cushing. Motion carried unanimously. 6 -0.

III. DISCUSSION ITEMS

A. Parks, Arts & Recreation Activity Guide (Krueger)
Arts & Events Manager Julie Krueger distributed various flyers, marketing and
promotional materials to the Junior Council that showcased the many summer
activities for youth in Auburn. Some activities offered are horseback riding, zip
lining, day camps, drama camps and sport camps. Other events include Kids
Summerstage, KidsDay and Summer Sounds & Cinema where the public can
watch movies in the park. Member Hands suggested playing movies directed to
the teenage audience. Manager Krueger encouraged the Junior Council to contact
her if they have any other ideas for future or existing activities.
B. Anti - bullying Campaign

The Junior Council discussed ideas on how to spread anti - bullying
awareness. Presentations at school assemblies and video advertisements are
some of the suggestions presented by the Junior Council. Member Hands
suggested an anti - bullying committee within schools and having the student body
vote on a president to lead the campaign. Member Thomas is president of Rainier
Middle School's Associated Student Body (ASB). She volunteered to present the
idea of an anti - bullying campaign to her school and will follow up at the next
meeting.

There being no further business to come before the Junior City Council, the meeting
adjourned at 5:40 p.m.
