explore and define a common vision for Auburn's future. Throughout 2014, there
will be a number of neighborhood workshops and community surveys to gather
input from Auburn residents. Once results are gathered, the city will move
forward on creating a new Comprehensive Plan to better address community
needs.
Planning Services Manager Chamberlain split the ]unior Council into two groups
and gave each group four questions to discuss:
What do you think are the City's greatest assets or strengths?
What are the most important issues and challenges facing Auburn today?
What opportunities do you see for making Auburn a better community in
the future?
What is your vision for the city 20 years into the future?
After the discussions, one member from each group shared their ideas and visions
to the rest of the ]unior Couhcil. Ideas presented were: More neighborhood
watch programs, safer streets and a strong police force
More job opportunities for adults and teens
More activities for youth and teens, such as a bowling alley, arcade and
swimming pool
Building additional parks on Lea Hill and more dog parks throughout the city
Creating stricter recycling and composting policies, as well as bringing healthier
and environmentally friendly restaurants to Auburn
Planning Services Manager Chamberlain encouraged the ]unior Council to take
