I. CALL TO ORDER
A. Roll Call
Chair Cole Lindell called the meeting fo order at 5:03 p.m. in Conference Room 3
at Auburn City Hall, 25 West Main Street in Auburn, �
Junior City Councilmembers present: Chair Cole Lindell, Vice Chair Sydney
Campbell, Tyler Cushing, Dalton Hands, Mary Riel and Olivia Thomas. Angelina
Zalutskiy and Mauricio Martinez-Torres were excused.
Staff members present: Deputy Mayor Rich Wagner, Assistant City Attorney Doug
Ruth, Parks, Arts & Recreation Director Daryl Faber, Public Affairs & Marketing
Manager Dana Hinman and Council Assistant Antoinette Manthey.

C. Agenda Modifications
There were no modifications.
II. CONSENT AGENDA
A. March 17, 2014 Meeting Minutes
Motion by Member Thomas to approve the March 17, 2014 minutes, seconded by
Member Hands.
Motion carried unanimously. 6-0.
III. DISCUSSION ITEMS
A. Website Content Ideas (H.inman)
Public Affairs & Marketing Manager Hinman asked the Junior Council to bring their
signed photo release form to the next meeting so she can put their photos and
biographies on the city website.
Deputy Mayor Wagner asked the Junior Council to explore the city website and
give their feedback on ways to make it easier to navigate and accessible to
youth. Vice Chair Campbell asked if the city has a mobile application that citizens

can use to find out what is happening in Auburn. Public Affairs & Marketing
Manager Hinman explained that the city currently uses third-parry applications for
multiple purposes, but there is not an application for specific city functions at this
time.
Deputy Mayor Wagner asked Assistant City Attorney Ruth to provide legal
documents, if any, on the "dos" and "don'ts" of website content at the next
meeting.
B. Parks & Amenities in Auburn (Faber)
Parks & Recreation Diredor Faber distributed a handout to the ]unior Coun¢il that
lists all of the parks in Aubum. He shared that there about 35 parks in the city
and the goal is to have a neighborhood park within a safe walking distance by
every home. Director Faber shared that the city is looking to build a park in the
downtown Auburn area to accommodate future residents that will moving into
downtawn.
Member Hands asked if the ciry plans to build other amenities other than parks,
such as a small building with lounge areas. Director Faber answered that a teen
center would have spaces such as a computer lab, reading lab and performance
stage.
Deputy Mayor would like feedback from the ]unior Council on transportation and
how youth can get to city parks and other attractions such as The Outlet
Collection; and are to bring their ideas to the next meeting to discuss as an
agenda item. Member Hands recommended adding a bike shop in downtown
Auburn to accommodate the future citizens that will be residing in downtown as a
way of transportation.
A discussion took place regarding security in parks. Vice Chai� Campbell
suggested having a call button at city parks that would signal the police if there
was an incident and it would alert other citizens of the incident.
Deputy Mayor encouraged the Junior Council to read Mayor Backus'weekly
electronic update and to give feedback on her"What Would You Do" questions so
she can hear from the youth. He also polled the Junior Council to seek their
interest on having parliamentary training. The Junior Council would like to be
educated on parliamentary training and Antoinette Manthey will schedule Ann
MacFarlane from Jurassic Parliamentary to attend the Junior Council meeting in
June or July.
IV. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Junior City Council, the meeting
adjourned at 5:33 p.m.
