HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-20-2014White River Valley Historical Society Board Meeting August 20, 2014, 1:30 to 3 p.m. Mary Olson Farm, 28728 Green River Road NE I. Call To Order President Pat Cavanaugh At the meeting board members were reintroduced to the Farm and reviewed plans for the Halloween Ball. The minutes were approved unanimously by the board. President Cavanaugh reviewed the Museum calendar. Unusual events at the Farm this coming month include a large tour from Dick Scobee Elementary School's summer program, Hops & Crops Brew Festival, and the City of Auburn employee luncheon — a-first at•the farmrParks Director Daryl Faber joined the meeting and said how excited he was to introduce the Farm to roughly 200 city employees. For the Museology 101 segment of the meeting, Patricia spoke about the how the Mary Olson Farm is managed. It was purchased in 1994 with Conservation Futures grant money; mothballed for restoration which began in 1999; triage work saving the buildings began in 2000; the Farm opened to the public in 2011. Over $2 million has been raised to preserve and restore the Farm, of that approximately $250,000 was contributed by the City. The Farm is leased by the Historical Society to allow easier management of grants and contracts. Over 18,000 school children have experienced the Farm on fleldtrips since that program began. Il. Committees A. Bill Greene, member of the Finance Committee gave the report, filling in for Treasurer Bothell. Incomes are on line with projections and expenses are a bit high. The Committee has reviewed those expense lines and at this time do not recommend any change in course. The board voted unanimously to accept the Treasurer's Statement as presented. B. Joan Mason gave a brief Collections Management Committee report highlighting the items reviewed, accepted and not accepted. The board supported the recommendations of the Committee unanimously. C. Chair Kim Perry rallied the troops to bring in checks and reservations for the upcoming Halloween Costume Ball. So far, including those who brought in money during the meeting, Ronnie Beyersdorf, Jamie Bothell, Megan Evans, Scott Gibons, Bill Greene, Rhonda Larson, Michele Oosterink, Kim Perry, Bill Sundqvist, Toya Turner, Mike Weibel have committed and /or paid for their table(s), with most others in the process of doing so. Way to go board membersl Looking to decrease expenses, this year we are serving a barbecue dinner. Kim generously provided Zola Cafe cards and cookies to early board sponsors. Thanks Kiml Ill. Staff Report. The board toured the farm and the saw the areas that school children see when they participate in fieldtrips. IV. Board Member Comments Around Table President Cavanaugh Ronnie Beyersdorf, Scott Gibbons and -Bill Greene received the You Rock award,for their support of The WRVM, and President Pat invited the board to his home on September 3 for an informal party.
