Roll Call Chair Cole Lindell called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in Conference Room 3 at Auburn City Hall, 25 West Main Street in Auburn. Junior City Councilmembers present: Cole Lindell, Sydney Campbell, Mary Riel, Dalton Hands, Tyler Cushing and Brandon Berend. Member Angelina Zalutskiy was excused. Staff members present: Councilmember John Holman and Council Assistant Antoinette Manthey. B. Announcements There were no announcements. C. Agenda Modifications There were no modifications. II. CONSENT AGENDA A. November 17, 2014 Meeting Minutes Motion by Member Hands to approve the September 15, 2014 minutes, seconded by Member Cushing. Motion carried unanimously. 6 -0. Motion by Member Cushing to approve the November 17, 2014 minutes, seconded by Member Hands. Motion carried unanimously. 6 -0. III. DISCUSSION ITEMS A. Conference Call - The BULLY Project Sarah Foudy & Lee Hirsch, Director of the documentary, Bu/ /y_ The Junior Council had a conference call with Sarah Foudy, Campaign Director for The Bully Project. The Bully Project is a nationwide movement to end bullying in America, inspired by the award - winning film BULLY. The Bully Project was created to help prepare educators to lead discussions with their students that focus on developing empathy and taking action. To date, the campaign has CA. A Page 1 of 2 Page 2 of 6 facilitated screenings for over 250,000 students and 7,500 educators across 120+ cities. Sarah Foudy gave the Junior Council an overview on The Bully Project and gave them ideas on how to incorporate it in the Auburn community. Some ideas included integrating The Bully Project with Auburn's DARE programs, churches, youth leadership programs, and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. IV. CALL TO ORDER Vice Chair Sydney Campbell called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m. in Conference Room 3 at Auburn City Hall, 25 West Main Street in Auburn. Junior City Councilmembers present: Vice Chair Sydney Campbell, Tyler Cushing and Mary Riel. Chair Cole Lindell, Brandon Berend and Dalton Hands were excused. Staff members present: Deputy Mayor John Holman and Council Assistant Antoinette Manthey. A. Roll Call B. Announcements There were no announcements. C. Agenda Modifications There were no modifications. II. CONSENT AGENDA 111. DISCUSSION ITEMS A. Impact Youth Make on a Society Deputy Mayor Holman gave a PowerPoint presentation displaying events from the Civil Rights Movement. Some events he shared were the Freedom Riders in 1 961 , the Children's March in 1963 and the "Sit-In" in 1960. All of these events and protests were held by youth and young adults and led to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Deputy Mayor Holman tied the Civil Rights Movement with the Junior Council bullying campaign to prove that the youth can make an impact on society. Deputy Mayor Holman encouraged the Junior Council to form a mission statement for their bullying campaign to share at the next meeting. IV. ADJOURNMENT CA.
