HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-06-2015 Minutes (2)Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Tuesday, January 6, 2015 5:30 p.m. Auburn Senior Activity Center, Rotary Room Call to Order Members present were Richard Artura, Greg Dobbs, David Domenowske, Vicki Gilthvedt, Chair Michael Hassen. Unexcused member Joe Bauman. Department staff present were Parks Director Daryl Faber, Parks Planning & Development Manager Jamie Kelly and Parks Secretary Julie Mehl. II. Minutes The July 2014 minutes and October 2014 minutes /notes were motioned for approval by Greg Dobbs, Vicki Gilthvedt seconds. III. Committee Member Input The board discussed the crime levels in town, Director Faber suggested viewing crime statistics on the City's website and noted the approval to hire six new officers. IV. Correspondence/ Public Input The board discussed a potential spray park to be installed at Sunset Park. The Lions Club is working with the City and has offered $200,000 towards the project. V. Old Business VI. New Business VII. Department Report Parks Planning & Development Manager Jamie Kelly is updating the Park Inventory (amenity detail) for the Parks Open Space Plan. This data is necessary to be eligible for various grants and will assist in our six year plan for improvements. (Kelly) Mary Olson Farm improvements to include a bridge over Olson Creek, increased parking to accommodate school tours and special events. The Hops & Crops Event will include musical entertainment this year. (Kelly) Dykstra Park will receive upgraded play structures via a Kaboom! grant. We are eligible for two Kaboom! grants per year and they must be located in a low income neighborhood. (Kelly) The City held a volunteer planting event at Fenster Park October 11. 200 volunteers planted 4,500 plants in a few hours. (Kelly) Teen / Community Center update — The architects and planning staff have designed the addition to the Parks Administration Building to include: hang out area, cafe, game room, homework area, kitchen for culinary classes, cardio room, living room. The project includes a rentable space to accommodate 250 people. Construction may begin as early as August 2015 and take 11 months to complete. Staff will move to the old Herr Lumber building during construction. (Faber) Washington State Department of Natural Resources Tree Inventory Grant — We applied for a tree inventory grant which would include DNR staff gathering species and general condition of trees in various developed property in our Parks system. We will learn the grant results at the beginning of February. (Kelly) VIII. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 pm.
