Call to Order
The Urban Tree Board met at Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation at 2:00 pm.
Tree board members attending were Chair Bryce Landrud, Members: Marsha Goodwin, Brooksie Donna
Hall, James Tourangeau. Not present /unexcused Jan Speer. Also present at the meeting were Parks
Planning & Development Manager Jamie Kelly, Parks Horticulturist Richard Valenti and Parks Secretary
Julie Mehl.
Minutes
The board reviewed minutes from May, Bryce moves to approve, Brooksie seconds.
III. Correspondence /Public Input
Parks Horticulturist Richard Valenti reports a citizen broke her foot neat the Sound Transit Station as a
result of tree grates. Richard gave City officials some ideas; remove grates & fill with bark, cut bars off
sides of grates so trees would fit better. Officials feel grates must remain. Chair Bryce Landrud offers to
write letter to City officials regarding cutting the grates so the trees can remain in place.
IV. Old Business
Potential Tree Planting on G St SE — Parks Planner Jamie Kelly recommends the board go door to door
asking folks if tree grant would be acceptable on parking strips, leaving info. if no one is home. Folks
would be asked to water trees for first year.
Chair Bryce Landrud suggests Maple tree at Olympic Middle School for Heritage Tree Status.
Proclamation could be read by Mayor Backus during an assembly.

VI. Board Recommendations /Input
Chair Bryce Landrud shares there will be many dead trees and shrubs turning up next spring from this
dry weather. He would like to add something to the City website with tips /suggestions on how to care
for trees / shrubs at this time. Bryce states even large, established trees are dying.
VII. Department Report
Parks Planner Jamie Kelly states there has been an issue with the GIS Department, Jamie is working on
getting correct information to contractor designated for tree inventory. We are hoping to incorporate
street tree inventory in a future grant.
Parks Horticulturist Richard Valenti was asked to evaluate stressed trees on Evergreen in the Lakeland
neighborhood (near Dorothy Bothell Park). He reports they are not doing well. Lakeland citizens looking
for variety / species ideas.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:00 pm.
