Parks and Recreation Board Meeting
Minutes
Tuesday, ]uly 7, 2015
5:30 p.m.
Auburn Senior Activity Center, Rotary Room
I. Call to Order
Members present were Chair Michael Hassen and board member Vicki Gilthvedt. Excused members Greg
Dobbs and David Domenowske. Unexcused members Richard Artura and Joe Bauman. Department staff
present were Parks Director Daryl Faber, Parks Planning & Development Manager Jamie Kelly and Parks
Secretary Julie Mehl.

The May minutes are not approved as there is no quorum.

VI. New Business (Faber)
Bob Kickner has been approved as a new Park Board member, appointment will go through City Council
meeting July 20. Bob is the Athletic Director at Green River Community College.
VII. Department Report (Faber)
The bids are now closed on the Community Center project, 8 bids have been returned at roughly
$500,000 under bid. Pease Construction is the front runner. Deals Way may be re-routed if funds are
available, also working on exit strategies within the campus. Herr and Big Daddys buildings may go,
looking at parking options throughout. Name will be changed to Auburn Community Campus including
Les Gove.
Meeting with Berger Partnership on Wednesday and the stakeholders with Les Gove Campus on Thursday
regarding the Auburn Community Campus project.
The Auburn International Farmers Market is doing well, the first hvo weeks of the season had increased
sales over the previous years. The hot weather has been challenging for vendors.
Kids Summerstage concerts begin next week, summer camps are doing well with higher attendance than
past years. Kids Day brought in a record $17,000. The 4`h of]uly Festival was down 25% on wristband
sales.
The shooting at Les Gove park on )uly 5`" near the King County housing was a double homicide of folks
with ties to Couer d'Alene, ID and each other.
Homeless update ()amie Kelly): There are 150 homeless folks in Auburn. Currently working on
strategies other than just moving them around.
