I. Call To Order !
President Kim Perry called the meeting to order at 1:35 and asked that the minutes be i
approved as sent. MOTION PASSED. Patricia Cosgrove presented a short Power Point featuring i
one of the Museum's more unique collections:the 1924 Mark Manson Drug Store photo album i
which inspired the design of the downtown Auburn scene in our permanent exhibits. I
II. Committees
Treasurer Jamie Bothell reviewed the Museum's Monthly Financial Statement which is on
track for a reasonable end of year budget. The income areas that are not making budget are
those tied to drop-in attendance such as admission, gift.shop and door donations—making the
outcome of the Halloween Costume Ball even more important. But given the full involvement of
the board in the Ball this year, it looks to be a great event!
Collections Management Committee chair and lead staff Joan Mason and Hilary Pittenger
presented findings and recommendations for items to be accessed into the permanent coilection.
Chair Mason donated a large collection of 1960s clothing, which significantly benefit o.ur
colledion which had been lacking in that area. Staff plan on featuring one or two of these outfits
in the first exhibit of 2016. Thanks Joan! MOTION PASSED !
Patricia Cosgrove described the process involved with accepting a large collection of
cameras and photographic equipment from long-time high school, photo teacher Pete LaPoint.
We accepted this collection, knowing that a portion will he formally accessed and the remainder
would be auctioned. The proceeds of this auction will be used to benefit our artifact collection
and its care. In early November Hamilton Auction of Tacoma will include these items in a public
auction which should net at least $800 profit.
Surrounded by auction items and materials ready to be taken to that event, Chair Kim
Perry and staff member Rachael McAlister updated plans for the upcoming Halloween Costume
Ball. Board members havefilled 20 ta6les with fine individuals prepared to spend, money to
support educational programs at the Mary Olson Farm, We hope to net at least$20,000 from the
evening festivities.
II I. Staff Report
Director Cosgrove shared information on the population of livestock at the Mary Olson
Farm. The goal of having historic farm animals live on the Farm is to add to the experiential
educational setting and introduce children and urban/suburban families to the domestic working
breeds that might have been living on the Farm. Earlier this year we adopted three donkeys from
the Bureau of Land Management—wild burros that had undergone gentling prior to arrivai at the
Farm. It turned out that they were not as far along in training as we,hoped, so we have rehomed
two with a farm family in Battle Ground. Using grant funds we purchased two miniature donkeys-
-Pip and Stinger. They are of a breed developed for mining, thus are very small. These littie guys
will be great livestock ambassadors to the public. The Olsons owned donkeys, but most likely not
such small ones, but these small animals were selected because their temperament and size.
make them a much safer option when working with the public.
The King Conservation District grented us$12,200 to purchase a life-size fiberglass
milkable cow to use in educational programs, two miniature donkeys, funds for other educational
supplies and money which sponsors roughly one/third of the Auburn School District kids that visit
the Farm annually.

IV. President Perry adjourned the meeting at 2:50
