Nancy Backus, Director of Human Resources/Risk Management Rob Roscoe,
Compensation/Employee Relations Manager Aaron Barber, and Human
Resources Assistant Melissa Medisch. Chair Isaiah Johnson notified the
committee of his tardiness due to work, and joined the meeting late.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes of the April 21, 2015, meeting were reviewed. It was moved and
seconded to approve the minutes as submitted
III. DISCUSSION
The salary information that was decided last year was sent to each committee
member prior to the meeting. The councilmembers' salaries are currently one
thousand two hundred dollars ($1,200.00) per month, with an additional four
hundred dollars ($400 00) per month for the Deputy Mayor In addition, the
councilmembers are allowed up to two hundred dollars ($200 00) per month for
attending regional committee meetings for which the councilmember was
appointed, or ($50 00) per meeting up to four (4).
There was discussion around modest increases each year to keep up with
inflation as well as for budgeting purposes, versus large increases every few
years and having to try to accommodate that in the budget. It was decided that a
two percent (2%) increase is reasonable as it matches what the unaffiliated staff
receive and can be budgeted and forecasted accordingly The Commission will
continue to come together to review the salaries each year as set forth by the
ordinance.
With a two percent (2%) increase, the councilmembers' salaries will be increased
to one thousand two hundred twenty four dollars ($1,224 00) per month, and the
Deputy Mayor shall be compensated at one thousand six hundred thirty two
doilars ($1,632.00) per month.

It was moved and seconded to adopt a two percent (2%) increase for all
councilmembers. There was a unanimous vote for the councilmembers' salaries
to be increased.
There was additional discussion around the compensation for meeting
attendance. Mayor Backus explained that this was originally intended to be in
place for those councilmembers that were appointed to terms on regional, state,
and/or national committees. In addition, this is only for formally structured
meetings when they are appointed by the Mayor to serve a given term, and not
when they are attending verbally or via teleconference, the attendance must take
place in person. There has been some confusion on the verbiage presented
regarding this compensation, and the Mayor was seeking the Commission's
advice.
The 2016 salary schedule shall read:
"3. In addition to the City Councilmember compensation specified above,
Councilmembers who are appointed by the Mayor to serve on regional boards,
commissions, and committees on behalf of the City shall receive an additional
payment of $50 00 per meeting for attendance at the meetings of such regional
boards, commissions, or committees, up to a maximum of four meetings per
month and a maximum of $200 00 per month as described in Auburn City Code
Section 2.51 020(B)."
It was moved and seconded to adopt the new language for the salary schedule,
and approved with a unanimous vote.
The Committee will meet again next year Notices will be mailed to the
committee members.
