Tuesday, May 3, 2016 Meeting Minutes

I. Call to Order, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approval of Minutes:
Chair McGee called the meeting to order at 4:29 pm. Commissioner Judd moved to approve the March
2016 meeting minutes. Commissioner Schwend seconded the motion. All approved. Motion a�proved.
II.Downtown Sculpture Gallery
Staff McKnight provided a summary of the Downtown Sculpture Gallery program now entering its fifth
year The Cultural Arts division distributed a Call to Artists, and reviewed applications from 30 artists/50
sculptures. The details of the call were re-stated, and an overview of the selection process was
introduced, and a voting roster distributed.
The commission reviewed each of the submitted artworks and the associated materials and determined
the ten that would be extended a loan agreement. The placement and location was part of the decision
making process as many of the sculptures are only able to physicaliy fit in one location. No more than
one artwork per artist was selected, and a variety of sizes and medium were taken into consideration.
Staff will work to contact each artist deinstallation/installation will be scheduled towards the end of August

III. People's Choice Award
The submitted votes via online and in person were counted and reviewed by the committee and the Peter
Hazet's"The Hatch"was the top surpassed the other favorites by 30 votes. The People's Choice,
receives a$500 award and will be paid directly to the artist and is part of the consideration for the
Purchase Award.
IV Purchase Award
The Commission discussed each artwork in detail and considered long-term maintenance as well as
overall fit into the City of Auburn's Public Art Collection and will be extending the Purchase Award to
Steve Tyree for"Hawk" Committee members were impressed at the quality of sculpture and several
ideas for potential placement were discussed. Final purchase and placement of this sculpture wilt be a
discussion at future meetings.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:25 pm
