APPROVAL OF MINUTES  Member Lela Brugger moved to accept the October 26, 2015 minutes; Member Maryelyn Scholz seconded the motion. All Committee Members were in favor of adopting the minutes as submitted. The October 26, 2015 minutes were approved. III. AGENDA  Miscellaneous Maryelyn Scholz presented a few possible dates for a day-long committee retreat. The group decided on Monday, February 8, 2016 at the Auburn Senior Activity Center. With turnover in membership over the past year and the addition of new members as well as new staff, the purpose of the retreat will be to reaffirm roles, members’ duties, expectations of staff, etc. Only current members and key city staff will participate in the retreat. Dana Hinman spoke to the committee about the quorum number, which is currently 7. The group is in favor of raising the number and presenting their preferences to council in order to make the group most effective. Maryelyn Scholz asked whether an email had been sent out regarding the Mayor’s Homeless Task Force meetings. Dana explained the content of the correspondence. A survey was attached to the information and participants were chosen from those answers. Within 10 days we’d received about 150 responses from interested citizens. One of the questions asked was if the applicant wasn’t selected for the Task Force, would they be willing to serve elsewhere? This pool of applicants could be a good source of recruitment for the Human Services Committee. At the upcoming retreat we’ll have further discussion of recruitment. In years past potential members have had informal meetings with the mayor and council in addition to formal interviews. All interested applicants must fill out a Boards & Commissions application. Lela Brugger asked if the City still had a standing meeting with the faith community leaders. Dana said that Pat Bailey, Healthcare Consultant for The City of Auburn had recently reached out to the pastors’ group but had not yet received a response. Barb mentioned that the group was still convening on a regular basis. IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS Human Services Committee Retreat will be held Monday, February 8, 2016. The next Human Services Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 22, 2016. Mayor Backus’ State of the City Address will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Auburn Avenue Theater at 5:30 p.m. The format will be different this year with a Q&A session to be held immediately following the speech.
