CALL TO ORDER The Human Services Committee Meeting was called to order at 3:25 pm on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 1 East Main Street, Auburn, WA Committee Members present: Barbara Derda, Jason Berry, JoAnne Walters, Maryelyn Scholz Committee Members absent: Lela Brugger Staff present: Director of Administration Dana Hinman, Community Services Assistant Emily Pearson and Human Services Manager Erica Azcueta Public guests: Carrol Stripling II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES  Member Barbara Derda moved to accept the March 28, 2016 minutes; Member JoAnne Walters seconded the motion after noting there was a small error in the minutes. Emily Pearson noted that she’d correct the number of occupants housed at Rita’s House from 3 to 4 to reflect the true count of residents. With that change, all committee members were in favor of adopting the minutes as submitted. The March 25, 2016 minutes were approved. III. AGENDA  Miscellaneous Barbara Derda asked if there was a definitive answer regarding conflicts of interest and roles of members. Chair Jason Berry stated that there were no clear rules but he felt there should be balance. The group came to the conclusion that a member must disclose their affiliation with any agency they have ties to; for example, being an employee, a board member or serving a role in any capacity. A conflict of interest form must be signed by the member(s) and they must recuse themselves from voting on any issues regarding that agency. Erica Azcueta will draft a form and/or policy to be presented at a meeting in the near future. JoAnne Walters said she’d like to revisit the idea of enlarging the committee quorum after the two currently-vacant spots are filled. In addition to those that expressed interest, there have been more community members who’d like to apply in the future. Emily Pearson said she is keeping their contact information and will add them to the email blast the next time there is an opening. Due to the 2-year application funding cycle the committee will revisit the quorum number later this year. Agency visit reports: JoAnne Walters and Maryelyn Scholz visited Pediatric Interim Care Center (PICC) on March 29. They were able to see the inner workings of the clinic and meet with staff. JoAnne told the Committee that mothers and fathers are permitted to come back to visit and bond with their babies if they are clean and sober. Barbara Derda attempted to view the Jubilee Center’s Wednesday evening cultural dance class but no one was in attendance. Emily Pearson will get in touch with St. Matthew’s Church to find another time for the visit.  Overview of 2017-2018 Funding Cycle Committee members were given an overview of the Share1app website. Each member has access to all submitted applications via the online account. Members can view, download, print and rate each application that was submitted for a request for City of Auburn funding. Applications will be discussed at the May meeting. The Committee will choose agencies to present at an upcoming meeting during the summer months. IV.
