HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-06-2016 Minutes City of Auburn Arts Commission, Auburn Arts and Culture Center, 100 Auburn Avenue, Tuesday, September O6, 2016 Meeting Minutes Present: Nancy Colson, Charlotte Gollnick, Jan Jensen, Patricia Judd, Heather Longhurst, Colleen Maloney, DeNae McGee, Donna Smart; City Council Liaison Rich Wagner; Arts and Events Manager Julie Krueger, Arts Assistant Mary Ellen Bowers, Director of Parks, Arts & Recreation Daryl Faber Excused: Cary Davidson, Trudi Moses, Dan Norman and Ronie Schwend Guests: James Smart, Robin Macnofsky, Michael Taskey, Colleen Maloney, Mary Clymer, Allison Hyde i. Call to Oriler, Approval of Minutes, Introductions: Chair McGee called the meeting to order at 4:35 pm. Commissioner Jensen moved to approve the August 2016 meeting minutes. Commissioner Gollnick seconded the motion. All approved. Motion approved. Julie Krueger welcomed Commissioners and guests. Commissioners and guests were invited to introduce themselves. II. Auburn Arts and Culture Cen,ter History Julie Krueger briefly reviewed the history of the building from its beginnings as a post office built in 1937 under the WPA, its use as a King County public health building beginning in 1964; and finally the purchase agreement between King County and the City of Auburn. The building is registered on the National Parks Register of Historic Places. Krueger also reviewed the $200,000 grant through 4Culture/King County Building for Culture initiative the City received towards the purchase and renovation of this property in order to serve as an Arts and Culture Center III. Potential Uses, Audiences and Programming Julie Krueger reminded Commissioners and guests that the City has an online survey asking the public for input regarding the public's vision for the space, available at www.auburnwa.gov/arts. Krueger outlined each survey questions for the Commission: 1 How could an Auburn Arts and Culture Center best serve you 2. What would you expect to do/experience at a new Auburn Arts and Culture Center? 3. What would make the Auburn Arts and Culture Center inviting and welcoming to you? 4 What would you like to see in terms of physical spaces, layout in or around the building? 5. What would you like to have available in terms of art making materials, equipment and classes? 6. Please share any other comments or ideas. Commissioners and guest discussed each question and provided input that will be added to all the other survey comments being collected. IV Other Business Julie Krueger shared an invitation from Leslie Moore, Green River College, to an event titled "Illumination." The collaboration between the Green River College Welding Department and area art organizations. The event is a celebration of light in the form of candelabras created by local and regional artists. The candelabras will be on display at Green River College on September 21, 2016. Krueger also passed out the 2016-2017 BRAVO Performing Arts Season brochure. Mr � � . Julie Krueger offered to lead a tour through the building after the meeting adjourned. V.
