I. Call to Order
The Urban Tree Board met at Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation at 2:00 pm.
Tree board members attending were Chair Bryce Landrud, Members: Jan Speer and James Tourangeau.
Also present at the meeting were Parks Planning Manager]amie Kelly, Horticulturist Richard Valenti and
Parks Secretary]ulie Mehl.

The board approved December 2016 minutes.
III. Correspondence/Public Input

Richard Valenti brought a list of all Arbor Day trees dating from 1999. Five are gone due to vandalism or
weather.

VI. Board Recommendations/Input
Chair Bryce Landrud would like to nominate the Big Leaf Maple on hole #9 at the Auburn Golf Course as
the Heritage tree for 2017. Julie Mehl to assign to March 6 or 20 City Council meeting. Richard Valenti
to view Box Elder located near Grace Community Church.
Clean Sweep project ideas: Blackberries and yellow archangel removal at Auburndale Park. Scotch
Broom removal on the White River Trail.
Richard asked the board which species they recommend for planting along the trail at Les Gove park.
Scarlet Oak, Yellow Maple or Copper Beech were noted.
VII. Department Report
Richard Valenti has completed a large tree order (40) for plantings at Les Gove and the Herr property.
Planting will be done January 14 as an Eagle Scout project.
Parks Maintenance is able to prune trees during the next two weeks, flowering cherry trees at Les Gove.
VIII. Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:45 pm.
