HomeMy WebLinkAbout3388 RESOLUTIOiV NO. 3388 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING T-HE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE THE 2001-2002 SENIOR RIGHTS ASSISTANCE OUTREACH SITES MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY AND SENIOR , _ _ _ SERVICES' SENIOR RIGHTS ASSISTANCE. WHEREAS, the purpose of this Agreement is to maintain and increase coordination between "Senior Rights'' and the City of Auburn Senior Center in order to provide seniors age 55 and older with information, education, and assistance with a variety of legal, consumer, and health insurance issues. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, _ _. WASHINGTON, IN A REGULAR MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED, HEREWITH RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The Mayor and City Clerk are herewith authorized to execute the 2001-2002 Senior Rights Assistance Outreach Sites Memorandum of Agreement with Senior Services' Senior, Rights Assistance. A copy of said Agreement is attached hereto, designated as Exhibit "A" and incorporated by reference in this Resolution. Section 2. Purpose The purpose of this agreement is to maintain and increase coordination between "Senior Rights" and "Cify of Auburn" in order to provide seniors age 55 and older with information, education, and assistance with a variefy of legal, consumer, and health insurance issues. II. Program Description Senior Rights Assistance is a peer assistance program which trains senior voluntee�s to provide senior consumers with information on a range o# issues with which they are likely to need help. The senior volunteers offer information with which senior consumers can make informed decisions based on their own unique needs, values, and circumstances. When required, a volunteer can provide advocacy on a cfient's behalf. Senior Rights can also connect qualifying low-income efients with free and low- cost attorney services when the client is unable to resolve legal issues without the services of an attorney. , Page 1 of 3 Memorandum of Agreement between Senior Rights Assistance and City of Auburn Services Senior Rights Volunteers ean include help with: • Social Security Problems e Consumer Issues o Landlord/Tenant Problems • Homeowner Concerns • Estate Information o End-of-Life Planning • Substitute Decision-Making e Health Insurance Information o Legal Referrals ', e Elder Abuse Community Educafion � III. Responsibil6ties of the Parties A. Senior Rights agrees 40: 1 . Provide one or more trained. volunteers at the City of Auburn Senior Center's Outreach Site at mutually agreed upon times to provide information services 2. Provide appropriate printed materials to clients who need them 3. Arrange for substitute services when an assigned volunteer is i11 or on vacation �. City of Au. burn Senior Center agrees to: 1 . Provide a private meefing space and access to a telephone for Senior Rights Volunteers and the consumers they serve 2. Schedule appointments for cfients with the volunteer assigned to the City of Auburn Senior Center 3. Both parties agree 40: 1 . Communi'cafie on an ongoing basis as to the needs of senior ciients 2. Work cooperatively and in partnership to resolve differences or misunderstandings 3. Provide a minimum of 90 days' written notice to terminate this Memorandum of Agreement Iv. General Provisions This agreement covers the two-year period from July 1 , 2001 to June 30, 2003. The Agreement will be reviewed every two years and can be revised at any time with the mutual involvement of both parties.
