A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON EXPRESSING ITS DEEP Sl'MPATHY TO THE FAMILIES

AND LOVED ONES OF THOSE KILLED AND TO THOSE INJURED IN TH€

TERRORIST ATTACKS SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 IN NEW YORK CITY,
WASHINGTON D.C; AND PENNSYLVANIA TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION
TO THE FIREFIGHTERS, EMERGENCY AND POLICE PERSONNEL AND
VOLUNTEERS WORKING TO SEARCH FOR SURVIVORS AND TO REMOVE
DEBRIS SAFELY; AND IN SUPPORT OF OUR GOVERNMENT'S ACTIONS
TO PROTECT THE UNITED STATES AND ITS CITIZENS.

WHEREAS, on the morning of September .11, 2001 terrorists hijacked
four airliners leaving airports on the east coast of the United States whose
destinations were California cities; and
WHEREAS, two of the hijacked airliners were flown into the finro World
Trade Center Towers at New York City where thousands of innocent people
were at work and going about their daily routines; and
WHEREAS, aS a result of the terrorists using the hijacked airliners as
"bombs'', all passengers and crew of the hijacked airliners were kil.led and the
World Trade Center Towers collapse.� and thousands of people are missing
and presumed dead; and
WHEREAS, one of the hijacked airliners was flown into the Pentagon in
Washington D.C. where hundreds of innocent people were at work and going
about their daily routines; and

WHEREAS, as a result of the terrorists using the hijacked airliner as a �
"bomb`', all passengers and crew of the hijacked airliner were killed and the
Pentagon was severely damaged and hundreds of people at the Pentagon
perished and many were injured; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the terrorist attacks hundreds of firefighters
and many police officers were killed when they responded to aid and rescue
those persons in danger; and
WHEREAS, one of the hijacked airliners crashed into a field in
Pennsylvania before it was used as a "bomb" on another United States target
and all passengers and crew were killed; and
WHEREAS, the four hijackings have resulted in unimaginable and
devastating carnage;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the Gity
of Auburn and in which the Mayor concurs that:
We express and extend our sincere and deep sympathy to all the
families and loved ones of those killed and to those who have been injured in
this devastating attack on our country; and

We express and extend our deep appreciation to the firefighters,
emergency and police personnel and volunteers who have risked their lives and
well being to search for survivors and to remove debris safely from the
devastated sites; and
V1/e express our support for our government's efforts to defermine who .
perpetrated the heinous acts, to find and locate the perpetrators and to protect
this great country and its citizens from terrorists.
